Why: Plane damaged following impact with terrain while maneuvering near Aguanga, California. The certificated private pilot and the sole passenger were killed. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The flight departed the Chino Airport (CNO), Chino, California, about 1300. The airplane had impacted an open field in a nose low, wings level attitude, on a magnetic heading of 275 degrees. The airplane came to rest in an upright position. The cabin and cockpit areas were destroyed, the empennage was intact, and both wings had sustained structural damage. The nose gear, both main landing gear, and the flaps were observed in the retracted position. The engine remained attached to the fuselage, and the three-bladed propeller remained attached to the engine’s crankshaft. Two people aboard a 1963 Mooney M20C aircraft are presumed dead after the plane’s wreckage was found by a search team at 9:19 a.m. on May 12 near Yellowstone, Wyoming, USA.The aircraft carrying 86 year old Ward H. Zimmerman and his younger brother 84 year old Robert Zimmerman from Alabama, took off from Yellowstone Regional Airport on May 6. They were en route to Twin Falls in Idaho.
The Park County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team was sent to find the plane after it was reported missing on May 10. A search helicopter spotted the plane in a severely damaged condition, settled on the eastern slope of Howell Mountain in Wyoming.
Park County Sheriff Scott Steward, after reviewing the aerial photographs and discussing the situation with Search and Rescue team officials concluded that the Zimmerman brothers lost their lives in the crash. He said, “Given the damage to the aircraft as well as the extremely harsh environmental conditions in the area, I think there’s no other conclusion we can make.”

Why: Dana air stated that it is fully aware of the mandatory requirement by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), for interim benefits to be paid to the families of the victims within 30 days of the accident.Although 68 families have completed their insurance compensation documentation, only nine families were given $30,000 each, having been the only ones to successfully run the legal gauntlet.
Beneficiaries said the interim payment fell short of their expectations.
Claim forms must be taken to Yomi Oshikoya & Co, for verification. Yomi Oshikoya & Co was appointed by the insurers in Lagos.
Dana Air attempted to distribute cheques as interim compensation to some individuals made homeless by the crash. Dana Air prepared N500, 000 for one of the victims, Mr. Daniel Omowunmi, N100, 000, each to two occupants of the boys’ quarters and N200, 000 each to six families in the block of flats. Full payment of the compensation by the insurance company is pending. The lawyer rejected the checks as inadequate and also not all of the victims were included.
