    Bird-Hit Avianca Brazil Airlines Flight Safely Lands in Rio de Janeiro

    AviancaAvianca Brazil Airlines flight O6-6235 made a safe landing after a bird strike in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 10th.

    The Airbus A318-100 plane was flying from Brasilia, Brazil, when a vulture hit it, damaging the radome.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Cessna Crash Kills Brazilian Presidential Candidate

    Plane crashBrazilian presidential candidate Eduardo Campos, 49, has been confirmed dead after his campaign plane, a Cessna 560XL, plunged into a residential neighbourhood in the port city of Santos, Brazil, on August 13.

    According to the authorities, the 12-seater plane could not land in Guaruja due to bad weather after which, the air traffic control lost contact with it. It then crashed near a gym in a residential area of Santos, sending smoke clouds in the air.

    City Hall press officer Patricia Fagueiro confirmed that all 7 people aboard the plane, including Eduardo Campos, 2 pilots, a press advisor and campaign photographer, died in the crash.

    It is not yet clear if anyone on the ground was injured in the crash.

    President Dilma Rousseff said in a statement, “The whole of Brazil is in mourning.”

    Falling Chopper amended to Hard Landing in Brazil

    What: Golden Fly Taxi Aereo Robinson R-22 Beta II
    Where: km 17 of the highway Ayrton Senna, in Guarulhos City, Brazil
    When: Sept 24, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard
    Why: A Robinson 22 helicopter used by “Golden Fly” for training flights made ??a forced landing on September 24. Although at first the Fire Department reported that the plane fell, the report was corrected to be listed as a hard landing. The Fire Department responded with four vehicles and the Military Police (MP) sent a chopper. The two crew members aboard suffered no injuries.

    Who: 199 fatalities
    Why: Sao Paulo Institute of Criminology 16-month investigation places blame on government agencies for failing to ensure runway safety. Government failure to set rainy-day landing rules for the short runway whose new surface had not yet been grooved to drain rainwater.

    Aircraft: Airbus Industrie A320-233, registration: PR-MBK
    Injuries: 199 Fatal.
    On July 17, 2007, at 21:54 UTC, an Airbus A320-233, Brazilian registration PTMBK, serial number 789, operated by TAM Linhas Aéreas overran the end of runway 35 at the Sao Paulo Congonhas airport upon landing. The airplane was on a scheduled domestic flight from Porto Alegre, Brazil. The airplane departed the runway to the left side near the departure end and crossed over a road prior to impacting a cargo depot and gas station. The end of the runway is on elevated terrain approximately 80 meters above the surface of the road. The 6 crew members, 162 passengers, and 18 persons on the ground suffered fatal injuries. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and fire.

    Six Die in Matto Grosso

    Who: 4 fatalities
    Why: Two engineers supervising paving works in Confresa lost control of the plane on approach to the airport.

    What: Single engine Inpaer Excel
    Where: Taquarinhas beach, Camboriu
    When: Nov 3, 2012
    Who: Two adults, 1 child, 2 fatalities
    Why: The flight went down in the ocean near Taquarinhas beach. The pilot and another adult aboard were killed. An eleven year old boy who was aboard survived the crash and has been hospitalized. The flight had taken off from Porto Belo, Santa Catarina. The aircraft sank around 10 a.m.

    Fishermen rescued the eleven year old, tossing him a floatation device. He was hospitalized at City Hospital Ruth Cardoso.

    The remains of pilot Julius Mandelli and his adult passenger were retrieved by rescue crews on jet skis and ski boats.
