    No Injuries. Jamaican Hostage Situation Resolved

    What: Canadian CanJet Airlines Flight 918 Boeing 737
    Where: Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport.
    When: Hostage crisis began at about 10:20 p.m. local time Sunday and ended near 6:40 a.m
    Who: Initially 159 (out of 174 expected) passengers and eight crew ; six crew members hostage for eight hours by gunman Stephen Fray
    Why: A “mentallly challenged” 20-year-old Jamaican gunman having relationship problems boarded the plane during a layover and demanded to be flown to Cuba. A passenger said “… took our money and we just, like, left our purses and our passports and everything just in the plane because we didn’t want to take any chances. We just put the money in a bag and we ran out of the plane.”. The flight was stormed by the Jamaica Defence Force Counter Terrorism Operations Group

    Fortunately the situation was resolved with no injuries, but it is obvious the poor kid had issues. Who in their right mind would leave Jamaica for Cuba?

    Edelweiss Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Zurich

    Edelweiss flight 8R-402 had to return and make an emergency landing in Zurich, Switzerland, on December 22nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Pristina, Kosovo, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy-two passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Boeing Statement on Air India Express Accident

    SEATTLE, May 21, 2010 — Boeing wishes to express its profound condolences to the friends and family of those lost on Air India Express Flt. IX-892, as well as its wish for the recovery of those injured. Boeing is sending a team to provide technical assistance to the investigation at the invitation of the Indian authorities. All media inquiries about the investigation must be directed to the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

    Croatia Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Brussels

    Croatia Airlines flight OU-4456 made an emergency landing in Brussels, Belgium, on February 22nd.

    The plane flying from Zagreb, Croatia, was on final approach to Brussels when the crew received an unsafe nose gear indication and went around to work the checklists.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. All fifty-eight people aboard remained unharmed.

    FedEx Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Tokyo International Airport

    FedExA FedEx plane made an emergency landing at Tokyo International Airport, Japan, on November 21.

    The Boeing-777 cargo plane, en-route from Shanghai, China, to Memphis, Tennessee, was diverted after a fire alarm went off mid-air.

    The plane landed safely. There were four crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Upon landing, the inspection teams searched the plane and found the fire source in a container.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Flybe Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Hydraulic Leak

    flybeFlybe flight BE-1048 made an emergency landing in Manchester, England, on May 11th.

    The plane was flying from Aberdeen, Scotland, when the crew reported a hydraulic leak and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely. There were 52 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
