    Delta Radio Obstructs Flight

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Orlando to Atlanta
    Where: Orlando
    When: Jun 21st 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the Boeing lost radio contact briefly. Although they were able to reestablish contact, they returned to the airport (and made a safe landing) in order to have the radio examined and possibly replaced.

    Tree Strike Kills 1

    What: Oak Ridge Flyers Inc. Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee B
    Where: Oliver Springs Airport in Anderson County, TN
    When: 18-OCT-2009
    Who: 4 on board, 1 fatality
    Why: After a hard landing, the plane struck a tree.

    The pilot was Doyle R. Chadwick.

    The passengers, all of whom survived, were Phillip Byrge, 49, and his 12-year-old son Nathan and 8-year-old daughter Mary.

    President of the Oliver Springs Airport board of directors,Steve Hamel, was quoted as saying that he believes “Wind and a wet runway likely played a role in the crash….It’s a grass runway, and it looks like the skid marks of extended distance here, that the brakes may have been locked up on the airplane”

    Aires Boeing Struck by Lightning on San Andres Island

    What: Aires Boeing 737-700 en route from Bogota to San Andrés Island Colombia
    Where: Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport on the Colombian island of San Andres
    When: August 15 2010, 2:15 a.m.
    Who: 131 aboard, 6 crew, 4 minors, 121 adult passengers
    Why: Prior to touchdown, the plane was struck by lightning (11 strikes recorded within 6 miles of the runway within a five-minute span of the crash); the plane impacted 80 meters shy of the runway. The impact scattered pieces of the plane, and it broke at the midsection into three main parts. When help arrived, passengers were already strewn about the area. Praise Boeing for no actual fatalities.

    The injured are being treated at “Amor de Patria Hospital” and “Villarreal Clinic” on San Andrés Island, with the most injured being ported to Bogata via air ambulance.

    After the crash-landing, Mrs. Amar Fernández died of a heart attack en route to the hospital. She was 73. 66 were reported injured, five of them seriously, 35 hospitalized. Alejandro Colmenares Rua (18 months), Yiseth Rua Rojas (23), Catherine Rua Rojas (27), Jacqueline Rua Rojas(23), María Alejandra Ballesteros (21) and Andrés Cagua Calderón (33) were unhurt.

    A room has also been opened for relatives at the Sheraton Hotel in Bogota. Aires published a release regretting what has happened. They are working with Aerocivil to serve the passengers and their families. They have provided a care line number: 018000-949490
    Relatives of the occupants may contact the Hotel Habitel where they will receive all Aires information.

    Flights at Gustavo Rojas Pinilla are suspended. Civil Aeronautics, the Navy, the Colombian Air Force, National Police, Red Cross, the company Aires and other institutions of the Regional Committee for Disaster Prevention and Response have responded.

    Dubai: UPS Boeing Black Boxes Sent to US


    The NTSB has received the data and voice recorders from the UPS Boeing 747-400 that crashed in Dubai on Sept 3 2010.

    Two crew members died in the cargo plane crash after an on board fire that made viewing flight gauges impossible.

    Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Issue

    Aerolineas Argentinas flight AR-1651 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, on July 13th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Neuquen to Buenos Aires, Argentina, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and fifty-three passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.

    Stuttgart: Fokker Foam Landing

    What: ContactAir Fokker 100/Lufthansa en route from from Berlin Tegel to Stuttgart
    Where: Stuttgart
    When: Sep 14th 2009
    Who: 73 passengers including Franz Muentefering and 5 crew (6 injury/issues)
    Why: After lowering the gear on approach to Stuttgart, the plane indicated an unsafe gear indication. The main gear would not lower; and after a holding pattern and attempts to resolve the issue, the plane made a belly landing on foam. Passengers debarked via slides.

    Franz Muentefering, chairman of Germany’s Social Democratic Party was on board, en route to an election rally.

    Five passengers were treated for shock, one flight attendant was hospitalized, but only one passenger was injured.
