What: TAP Air Portugal Airbus A340-300 en route from Lisbon to Luanda
Where: Lisbon
When: Dec 6 2010
Why: En route over the airport, the crew received a fuel filter error message, and returned to Lisbon to make a safe landing. The flight circled for an hour and dumped fuel; and was back in the air on Tuesday.
Thomas Cook Airlines flight MT-992 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on October 15th.
The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Birmingham, England, to Hurghada, Egypt, was diverted after the crew reported an issue with a fuel pump.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.
What: Alaskan Airlines Flight 363 en route from Sacramento to Seattle
Where: Sacramento International Airport
When: Jan 12, 2011 6:20 pm
Why: After takeoff, the plane ingested a bird into its engine.
The pilot returned to Sacramento and made a safe landing. The extent of damage to the plane’s engine has not been released. The flight was cancelled.

Expressjet flight EV-5419 had to return and make an emergency landing in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 11th.
The plane took off for Detroit, Michigan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the right hand engine stopped working.
The plane landed safely. All 62 people aboard remained unharmed.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

What: Aer Lingus Airbus A321-200 en route from London to Cork
Where: Shannon Ireland
When: Mar 21, 2010
Who: 181 passengers
Why: While on approach to Cork, an indicator light revealed a hydraulic issue. After two aborted approaches, the flight diverted to Shannon, and made a safe landing. It was towed off the runway. An alternative flight was provided for the passengers several hours later.
Hopefully Aer Lingus planned (230) job cutback will not also result in a cutback in safety.
Delta Airlines flight 1672 had to return and make an emergency landing at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, New York, on April 23.
The plane, carrying 174 passengers and 5 crew members, took off for Atlanta, Georgia, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported possible fault in one of the two engines.
The plane landed safely and no one was harmed.
The aircraft was taken for examination.
Virgin Atlantic flight VS-3 made an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on January 17th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, but had to turn back due to an oil quantity indication for one of the engines.
The plane landed back safely. All two hundred and forty-five passengers aboard remained safe.
