Royal flight RL-8772 made an emergency landing in Delhi, India, on April 7th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Phu Quoc, Vietnam, to Yekaterinburg, Russia, was diverted after the crew noticed an engine failure.
The plane landed uneventfully. All three hundred and forty-five people aboard remained safe.

What: Virgin Australia Boeing 777-300 en route from Los Angeles to Brisbane
Where: Los Angeles
When: Oct 15th 2010
Why: While being towed to the gate, the plane’s wing struck a hangar which cause substantial damage to the wing.
Passengers were left without a flight and have experienced a delay in returning to Australia.
What: Emirates A380 en route from Bangkok to Dubai
Where: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad
When: October 23, 2011, 3:40 a.m.
Who: 481 passengers
Why: While en route, the plane developed problems. Pilots planned to land in Chennai but could not get clearance, and diverted instead to Shamshabad, where they were able to be cleared to land.
The flight did land safely. The passengers disembarked with no reported injuries, and were provided a plane to take them the rest of the way to Dubai. Some took alternative flights.

What: South African Airways Airbus A319-100 en route from Durban to Cape Town
Where: Durban
When: Dec 11th 2009
Who: not available
Why: On takeoff, the flight had a bird strike, and made an immediate emergency landing. Passengers debarked and were provided alternative transport.
The bird ingested was reportedly a “Yellow-billed Kite.”

What: British Airways Boeing 777-200 en route from Santa Maria Azores Islands (Portugal) to London Heathrow
Where: Atlantic
When: Oct 19th 2011
Why: While en route to Portugal, one of the plane’s four engines (right engine) had to be shut down after experiencing a problem with the oil pressure. The flight diverted to Lisbon, and made a safe landing.
The same plane had had a similar problem on October 16th, and had diverted at that point to Santa Maria.

What: THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A340-300 en route from Bangkok to Istanbul
Where: Mumbai
When: Apr 1st 2010
Who: 289 passengers
Why: While en route, one of the engines developed problems, and the crew had to shut it down and decided to divert to Mumbai. The flight made a safe landing, and was towed to the gate.
140 passengers were directed to alternative airlines, and the rest were provided hotel accommodations and given a seat on a Turkish Airlines Friday flight.
Passengers were booked on alternative flights.
IndiGo flight 6E-1707 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on November 16th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Doha, Qatar, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and thirty-four passengers and seven crew members remained unharmed.
