    Illegal Flight Ends in Colombia

    What: Cessna T210L en route from Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia to Quibdó, Colombia
    Where: Puente Iglesias, Fredonia Colombia
    When: June 15, 2010
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: Near Puente Iglesias, the illegal flight was lost at dusk over the Cauca river; no trace of the crew was found. Searchers found a bag containing 57 kilos of cocaine aboard. Witnesses to the crash said the crew had been seen on the plane in the river, but there had not been time to reach them before the plane sank in the river. Rescuers are looking for the bodies along the river.

    Mexican Interior Minister Juan Camilo Mourino Killed in Lear Crash


    What: Lear jet en route from the north-returning from an event in the city of San Luis Potosi, central city of San Luis Potosi to Mexico City
    Where: in the street street in an upscale business district in Mexico City
    When: Tuesday Nov 4 during rush hour
    Who: Eight people killed , including Mexican Interior Minister Juan Camilo Mourino, former Deputy Attorney General Josi Luis Santiago Vasconcelos and Miguel Monterubio Cubas, the director of social communication. Forty people on the ground were injured.
    Why: The vice president of the national civil aviation rescue committee is quoted as saying, “It could have been anything, from mechanical failure to sabotage.” It appeared that something happened to the plane in the air before the plane nosedived straight into the ground and set two dozen cars on fire in the posh Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood.

    Eight are confirmed dead. 40 have been hospitalized. 1800 locals were evacuated. Sabotage has not been ruled out, because Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, the deputy attorney general was a key player for years in Mexico’s army-led war on drug cartels. Mourino was 37, married with three children, and a rising star in Mexican politics.

    Plane Crashed at Durango Airport, 2 Killed

    P-51 MustangA P-51 Mustang aircraft crashed just north of the runway at the La Plata County Airport in Durango, Colorado, at about 9:30 a.m. on July 4.

    The incident happened when the plane reached about ¼ mile up in the air after taking off.

    The Durango Fire and Rescue Authority confirmed that there were only two people aboard and both of them lost their lives in the crash. They were later identified as John Earley, the owner of the plane and the CEO of Saddle Butte Pipeline LLC in Durango, and Mike Schlarb, his flight instructor; both were in their 50s.

    The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

    Why: On landing, a tire blew out.

    Two Killed After Small Plane Crashes in Texas

    A small plane crashed in Fisher County, Texas, on June 15th.

    The Cessna 172 plane, carrying two people, struck power lines before it went down near near Abilene.

    Both occupants of the plane were killed in the crash. They were identified as Dallas Lee McMahon, 33, of Austin, and Jay “Bob” Robert Leibson, 38, of Burnet.

    Authorities said they were on an aerial photography mission at the time.

    Small Plane Crashed in Tehachapi, CA; 1 Killed

    A small plane crashed in Tehachapi, California, on November 19th.

    Authorities said the single-engine Cessna 152 plane went down in the Capital Hills area of Tehachapi.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The FAA and the NTSB will investigate.
