    Emergency Landing in Shannon

    A Delta Boeing 767 diverted to Shannon and made an emergency landing on August 5, 2013 with emergency services on standby.

    220 passengers and crew were aboard when the right engine developed problems and was shut down.

    Pilots dumped fuel thirty minutes into the flight and made a safe landing in Shannon.

    The flight was en route from Italy to Atlanta.

    Alaska Airlines Flight Diverts to Denver due to Disruptive Passenger

    Alaska Airlines flight 769 made an emergency landing at Denver International Airport, Colorado, on February 9th.

    The plane, heading from Logan International Airport, Massachusetts, to San Diego International Airport, California, was diverted after a drunk male passenger became aggressive and threatened the crew and other passengers.

    The plane landed safely. The police officers escorted the man out of the plane.

    The plane resumed the flight after a 45-minute delay.

    Paris: Air France Emergency Landing

    What: Air France Boeing 747-400 en route from Paris to Bangkok
    Where: Paris
    When: Jan 22nd 2010
    Why: After takeoff from Paris, one of the engines failed. The crew notified ATC and returned to Charles de Gaulle Airport to make a safe landing. The flight was subsequently postponed.

    Air India Emergency Diversion to Kozhikode

    What: Air India Airbus A321 en route from Kozhikode in Kerala to Sharjah
    Where: Kozhikode
    Who: 168 passengers
    Why: The pilot of an Air India flight alerted Kozhikode Air traffic control that there was a problem with the plane, and diverted back to Kozhikode shortly after takeoff.

    The air conditioning inside the plane was shut down, and there were sparks noted from one of the engines. Whether or not the cause of the engine sparking was a bird strike has not been confirmed.

    According to passengers, the plane “started vibrating as soon as it took off from the runway.”

    Passengers also said they were not provided a hotel, but promised a flight at 12 pm, then at 4:40 a.m, and finally were provided an actual flight at 5:40 a.m.

    Qantas Johannesburg-Sydney Flight Loses Engine

    What: Qantas Boeing 747-400 en route from Johannesburg South Africa to Sydney
    Where: Johannesburg
    When: Jul 15th 2011
    Why: While en route, the plane developed engine problems with engine 3. Passengers reported hearing a bang before the captain announced returning to Johannesburg.

    The pilot dumped fuel and returned to Johannesburg, where he made a safe landing. A replacement flight was provided, delaying the flight by a day.

    On board was the SA Springbok Rugby team.

    Air Canada Plane Makes Emergency Landing in New York

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC-942 had to divert and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy Airport, New York, USA, on March 2nd.

    The Airbus A319-100, heading from Toronto, Canada, to Bermuda, was mid air above Atlantic Ocean when the crew reported engine stall, causing the plane to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    No one was injured.
