India Punishes Drunk Pilots

of India said publicly that “39 cases” (of pilots drinking alcohol) “have been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) from January 2009 to December 2009 . . . where pilots or co-pilots were found to have consumed alcohol during pre-flight breath-analyzer test.”

Those involved have been disciplined for breaking India’s “no alcohol 12 hours before flying” rule. Individuals not passing breathalizer testing are grounded for a month.
