Delta Flight 886 Diverts to JFK Airport; Rolls off the Taxiway

250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines Flight 886 had to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, due to a fault in plane’s hydraulic system.

The plane was en route from Atlanta to LaGuardia Airport. However, as the fault was detected, it was diverted to the JFK airport.

The airline told that the decision of diversion was made because the JFK airport has longer runways than the LaGuardia Airport.

A word to #MH370 Families on the limitation of words

    In George’s Point of View

A word to the families on the limitation of words.

Pain has an end, but love interrupted has no end.

If I could hold your hand, I would. Physics won’t let me reach through the page to hold your hand. I can not reach though the screen. I cannot whisper in the ear of all the families that I am here for you, even though here means a world away.

If there is a time for all things, then now is the time to cry. Cry till all the tears are gone; then tomorrow there will be one less tear to cry, and the following day, one less. Until nothing is left but the rainbow of memory.

The outpouring of empathy crosses nations. All the others who have known loss are sharing your grief. Grief is not one of those weights reduced by the number of shoulders bearing it. There is no way out from under grief—the only cure is living through it into the time of healing. So whatever it takes to choose life, let the healing begin. I know these words are less consolation than a kind touch, less than someone sitting beside you, holding your hand, providing a shoulder, an ear, a heart. You need not be desolate, alone, circling in on yourself. Mend what can be mended. When you need to speak, offer an ear. When you need help, offer a hand. Remember, this too shall pass. Remember what was good and celebrate it. Remember what was real, and let all else fall away. Let your heart be lifted. Let it be lighter from this moment on.

Asiana Airlines Plane Crash Update: Plane was Flying too Slow

sanfranciscoRecent documents released by the federal investigators reveal Asiana Airlines’ stance on the San Francisco plane crash that happened on July 6, last year.

The documents are a part of the report submitted by Asiana Airlines to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). In the report, the airline has acknowledged that the slow speed of plane was probably a cause of accident, and the irregularities in the Boeing 777-200ER’s autothrottle contributed to some extent. The plane’s navigation equipment was showing the autothrottle to be upholding the set speed, when in fact the equipment had disabled the minimum airspeed protection function of the aircraft.

Boeing has maintained in their report submitted to the NTSB that all the components and functions of the aircraft were working properly and did not contribute to the crash.

The incident happened when the flight was en route from Taipei to San Francisco. Three lives were lost while 200 were injured.

Recently Asiana Airlines admitted the pilot was flying too slowly.

Avianca Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Without Front Wheels

UntitledAn Avianca Airlines Fokker 100 jet made an emergency landing in the Brazilian capital city Brasilia, as its front landing gear stopped working.

The plane, carrying 49 passengers, was en route from Petrolina to Brasilia airport on March 28. The pilot requested emergency landing protocol as his attempt to lower the plane’s front landing gear failed.

Media sources report that the pilot kept flying the passenger jet around the city, in order to shed the weight of extra fuel. The plane then safely landed on its rear wheels, while the fire crew foamed it to avoid a friction fire when its nose touched the runway.

All the passengers and crew members were evacuated safely.

Arclight Films Halts the Preproduction of ‘Deep Water’ After MH370 tragedy

    Malaysian airlines
While the real life mystery of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappearance hit the headlines, Australian film producer Alister Grierson revealed that this real life event is eerily similar to the story line of his upcoming action horror film ‘Deep water’.

Considering the sensitivity of scenario, Arclight Films on Monday announced that they have decided to pause the work on Deep water. The film company’s managing director Gary Hamilton said ‘Out of sensitivity to the Malaysia flight situation, we’ve decided to put it on pause for now’.

The film is based on the story of plane crash survivors who have to face and fight hungry sharks.

    Malaysia Airlines Media Statement

    Released at 12: 30 p.m. local time

Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof, Chairman of Malaysia Airlines

As you will be aware, last night the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najjib Razak, announced new evidence regarding the disappearance of MH370 on 8th March.

Based on this evidence, the Prime Minister’s message was that we must accept the painful reality that the aircraft is now lost and that none of the passengers or crew on board survived.

This is a sad and tragic day for all of us at Malaysia Airlines. While not entirely unexpected after an intensive multi-national search across a 2.24 million square mile area, this news is clearly devastating for the families of those on board. They have waited for over two weeks for even the smallest hope of positive news about their loved ones.

This has been an unprecedented event requiring an unprecedented response. The investigation still underway may yet prove to be even longer and more complex than it has been since March 8th. But we will continue to support the families – as we have done throughout. And to support the authorities as the search for definitive answers continues. I will now ask our Group Chief Executive¸ Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, to provide you will with fuller details of our support for the families.

Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, Group Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Airlines

I stand before you today not only as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airlines, but also as a parent, as a brother, as a son. My heart breaks to think of the unimaginable pain suffered by all the families. There are no words which can ease that pain. Everyone in the Malaysia Airlines family is praying for the 239 souls on MH370 and for their loved ones on this dark day. We extend our prayers and sincere condolences.

We all feel enormous sorrow and pain. Sorrow that all those who boarded Flight MH370 on Saturday 8th March, will not see their families again. And that those families will now have to live on without those they love. It must be remembered too that 13 of our own colleagues and fellow Malaysians were also on board.

And let me be very clear on the events of yesterday evening. Our sole and only motivation last night was to ensure that in the incredibly short amount of time available to us, the families heard the tragic news before the world did. Wherever humanly possible, we did so in person with the families or by telephone, using SMS only as an additional means of ensuring fully that the nearly 1,000 family members heard the news from us and not from the media.

Ever since the disappearance of Flight MH370 Malaysia Airlines’ focus has been to comfort and support the families of those involved and support the multi-national search effort. We will continue to do this, while we also continue to support the work of the investigating authorities in the Southern Indian Ocean.

Like everyone else, we are waiting for news from those authorities. We know that while there have been an increasing number of apparent leads, definitive identification of any piece of debris is still missing. It is impossible to predict how long this will take. But after 17 days, the announcement made last night and shared with the families is the reality which we must now accept. When Malaysia Airlines receives approval from the investigating authorities, arrangements will be made to bring the families to the recovery areas if they so wish. Until that time, we will continue to support the ongoing investigation. And may I express my thanks to the Government and all of those involved in this truly global search effort.

In the meantime, Malaysia Airlines’ overwhelming focus will be the same as it has been from the outset – to provide the families with a comprehensive support programme. Through a network of over 700 dedicated caregivers, the loved ones of those on board have been provided with two dedicated caregivers for each family, providing care, support and counsel. We are now supporting over 900 people under this programme and in the last 72 hours, we have trained an additional 40 caregivers to ensure the families have access to round-the-clock support.

In addition, hotel accommodation for up to five family members per passenger, transportation, meals and others expenses have been provided since 8th March and that will continue.

Malaysia Airlines has already provided initial financial assistance of USD 5,000 per passenger to the next of kin. We recognize that financial support is not the only consideration. But the prolonged search is naturally placing financial strain on the relatives. We are therefore preparing to offer additional payments as the search continues.

This unprecedented event in aviation history has made the past 18 days the greatest challenge to face our entire team at Malaysia Airlines. I have been humbled by the hard work, dedication, heartfelt messages of concern and offers of support from our remarkable team. We do not know why, and we do not know how this terrible tragedy happened. But as the Malaysia Airlines family, we are all praying for the passengers and crew of Flight MH370.

  • Alister Grierson Says Malaysian Plane Incident Resembles the Plot of “Deep Water”

    Malaysian airlines

Australian film maker Alister Grierson has disclosed that the plot of his recent production, “Deep Water” coincidentally resembles the mysterious story of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappearance.

The film is about the fate of survivors of a plane crash on a China-bound air flight. The director said “The similarities and timing is interesting, and I can see why anecdotally the two things link up, it’s a tricky thing.”

This coincidence becomes even more mysterious considering that the director’s previous movie, “Sanctum”, based on an underwater cave diving adventure gone wrong, was released exactly two weeks prior to the  Northern New South Wales and Queensland floods.

SpiceJet Denies Violating Air Safety Rules, Defends Mid-Air Holi Celebrations

    Spicejet

The mid-air Holi celebrations of the crew of SpiceJet, a low cost Indian airline, on Monday, March 17 resulted in a show cause notice by the Director General of Civil Aviation.

The notice states that airline has violated air safety regulations as the pilot left the cockpit unnecessarily, the dance and song performance affected the preparedness of the crew and the frequent movement of the dancing crew disturbed the center of gravity of the aircraft.

However, the airline officials maintain that the mid-air Holi celebration did not violate any air safety guidelines.  The cockpit was manned even though the co-pilot stepped out.  The Holi performance was pre-planned and five extra crew members, specially trained for this choreographed performance, were on board.  Therefore, preparedness of the crew members was not affected at all.

SpiceJet official statement said that this sort of performances are not new in the airline industry.  Several airlines celebrate special occasions for delight of the passengers.

Some media sources report that the airline has suspended the involved pilot and co-pilot.

The Traumatized Passengers of Mexico-Edmond Sunwing Flight, Waited Hours to Get Customs Clearance

A Puerto Vallarta, Mexico-bound Sunwing Boeing 737-800 en route from Edmonton,Alberta Canada, diverted and made an emergency landing on Sunday March 16, 2014 in Helena Montana after flying through ninety seconds of turbulence.

Two of the six person crew sustained injuries, but none of the 181 passengers were seriously injured, perhaps because the seatbelt lights were on.

Passengers waited hours on the airstrip before a customs agent finally arrived and attended to them. The replacement jet did not arrive for eleven hours.

According to Ron Mercer, Director Helena Regional Airport, the airport has only one customs agent who was not there on Sunday. Another customs agent was called and arrived after a 1.5 hour drive from Great Falls. The airport does not usually host commercial international flights and the customs agent had to “do his homework” and consult  international rules before passengers could exit the aircraft.

The situation called for modification in the US customs and immigration department’s emergency protocols, for easing up procedures for those passengers already traumatized due to an emergency situation.

The unexpected delay will no doubt result in consequences because, as CBC News says major Canadian airlines tariff says if “…your flight is delayed more than 90 minutes, you may have the right to get off the plane.”

You can rest assured that after these passengers spent five hours in the plane, someone is going to be paying a hefty fine.

Malaysia Airlines MH370 Where Are You? Can Satellites Tell Us

After being in flight for forty minutes, the Malaysia Airlines MH370 vanished, but not without a trace. The disappearance occurred ten days ago on March 8, 2013. Techies world-wide are convinced that a trail is discoverable via satellite signal, as engines continued to transmit data after other communications were shut down. So is China, who has engaged the assistance of ten ships and twenty-one satellites in the search. The Boeing 777 was waylaid, misplaced or otherwise disappeared between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.

China and Malaysia are not alone in the search. In response to Malaysia’s plea for world-wide assistance in scouring earth, wave and sky, twenty-six countries are pitching in:

Malaysia, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, UK, the United States, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Australia is searching in the Indian Ocean.

Three BEA investigators with Air France Flight 447 experience are lending their expertise.

Two individuals boarded with stolen passports. Hundreds of theories about the disappearance are developing. From treachery to catastrophic failure to a dry run for a “9/11” style attack, every possible scenario has been postulated.

Malaysia Airlines is providing accommodations for relatives at the Lido Hotel where family briefings are being held at six o’clock every evening.
