    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    United Airlines flight UA-31 had to return and make an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on May 30th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Newark, New Jersey, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air China Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Winnipeg

    Air ChinaAn Air China flight had to make an emergency landing at Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on June 4th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane, heading from Washington D.C. to Beijing, China, was diverted due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

  • Two Royal Air Force Jets diverted to Newcastle


    Two Royal Air Force Jets diverted to Newcastle.

    The cockpit of one of the RAF jets filled with smoke, leading to the emergency landing.

    The pilot of the smoke filled jet was taken in a Sea King helicopter to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for a check-up.

    The Royal Airforce made a public statement:

    The RAF can confirm a Hawk aircraft from RAF Leeming diverted to Newcastle Airport this morning with a technical issue that resulted in fumes in the cockpit. The aircraft landed safely.

    What: Air Busan Boeing 737-400 en route from Fukuoka (Japan) to Busan (South Korea)
    Where: Fukuoka Japan
    When: Dec 26th 2010
    Who: 153 aboard
    Why: When cleared for takeoff, the Air Busan flight was taxiing when it went performed a runway incursion as a Jal Express Boeing was on final approach. The incursion casued a collision hazard/ loss of separation with an aircraft taking off, intending to take off, landing or intending to land. The Jal had to perform a go-around, but landed safely less than half an hour later. Then the Air Busan flight took off normally.

    What: Chautauqua Airlines /Continental Airlines/Embraer ERJ-145 en route from Hartford to Cleveland
    Where: Hartford
    When: Sep 26 2011
    Who: 49 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: After taking off from Hartford, smoke was observed in the bathroom.
    Pilots were in the air from 9:42 am to 9:45 am.

    The pilots made a safe landing, with emergency services on standby. Passengers evacuated without injury on to the runway, and were bussed to the terminal. The location of the plane did cause some airport disruption and delay.

    Air Canada Aborts Flight in Vancouver

    What: Air Canada Boeing 767-300 en route from Vancouver to Shanghai
    Where: Vancouver International Airport
    When: August 21, 2010
    Who: 166 passengers and 9 crew
    Why: Twenty minutes after leaving, the pilot returned to Vancouver after detecting a whistling sound from a cockpit window. The flight entered a holding pattern, then made a safe landing.

    Passengers were provided an alternative plane while this plane was scheduled for maintenance.
