    Two Crash in Redlands

    What: Joseph M. Gauthier’s Yakovlev circa 1985 YAK-52 en route from/to from Redlands Airport performing aerobatics
    Where: Santa Ana River bed at Opal Avenue, 10 miles from Redlands, CA
    When: Monday, Feb 08 2010 between 12:50 and 1 p.m.
    Who: 2 fatalities (a man and a woman) both off-duty California Air National Guard ( March Air Reserve Base) members
    Why: Witnesses say that while they were watching the plane doing aerobatics, the plane went down. The area is a place where planes often perform aerobatics, and the soviet-built Yakovlev was designed as a trainer and acrobatic aircraft.

    Training Helicopter Crashes in AZ; 2 Injured

    What: Native Air Aerospatiale AS.350BA Ecureuil (Eurocopter AS 350) training helicopter
    Where: trying to land at San Carlos’s Cutter airport, San Carlos Indian reservation, 60 miles west of Phoenix
    When: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009
    Who: 2 on board
    Why: The medical evacuation helicopter (configured for training) crashed on landing.

    Both occupants of the helicopter were hospitalized with injuries.

    Small Plane Carrying Two Crashes in Nova Scotia

    A small plane crashed in a wooded area in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada, on August 16th.

    The single-engine plane was carrying two people when it crashed into trees.

    Both occupants were able to walk after the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    4 Survive Antonov Crash offshore Gabon, Africa

    What: DHL Aviation (leased from Solenta Aviation) Antonov 26
    Where: 2.3 km S of Libreville Airport, Gabon
    When: 06 JUN 2011
    Who: 2 crew 2 passengers
    Why: The flight had permission to land when it began experiencing a hydraulic problem, and was flying with difficulty when it crashed into the sea near Libreville Airport. (Although reported as a hydraulics issue, both propellors had stopped according to witnesses, so it may have been a fuel issue. )

    One passenger from Gabon and one Bulgarian passenger were on board. The two member crew was Ukranian.

    The flight ditched in shallow water and the plane is still visible above the water line.

    Gabon has banned Antonov 26 flights in its airspace until further notice

    Heroic Tragic Firefighting Copter Crash: NSW

    What: NSW Rural Fire Service Bell B206L-1 LongRanger II performing bushfire surveillance
    Where: 5km SE of Dorrigo, on the mid-north coast, NSW Australia
    When: Dec 9. 2009 11:30 am
    Who: Pilot and passenger
    Why: While conducting bushfire surveillance while fighting a fire, the helicopter went down in the rainforest. The passenger, a 41-year-old National Parks and Wildlife Service ranger died. He had been a ranger for 12 years.

    In Dorrigo Hospital, the pilot is fighting for his life, after sustaining critical chest, head and back injuries. He will be airlifted to a major hospital later on Wednesday

    The pilot has over 3000 flying hours. This is the third serious firefighting helicopter incident in the past 48 hours.

    1,500 firefighters continue to fight the fire caused by dry conditions and lightning strikes. Unrelated to the helicopter crash, other individuals have been injured in the fire.

    Fort Campbe Helicopter Crashed in Tennessee; 2 Pilots Killed

    A Fort Campbe helicopter crashed into a rural field, and then caught fire, near Cumberland River, Tennessee, on the night of December 2.

    The helicopter crashed during a training exercise, taking the lives of 2 Fort Campbe pilots.

    According to the Army Combat Readiness Centre Spokesperson, “We’re working on getting all the facts together, and are in the process of getting information”.
