    Who: 136 passengers
    Why: While en route, the passenger cabin developed a burning smell. The flight diverted to Klamath Falls where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.

    IndiGo Flight Diverts to Bhubaneswar due to Medical Emergency

    IndiGo flight 6E 822 made an emergency landing in Bhubaneswar, India, on December 22nd.

    The plane heading from Kolkata to Bengaluru, India, was diverted after a 32-year-old male passenger suffered a medical emergency.

    The plane landed safely. The patient was rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar where the doctors later declared him dead.

    Small Plane Crashed into House near Helena Regional Airport; 2 Injured

    Piper PA-28A single engine Piper PA-28 plane crashed into a house near Helena Regional Airport in Montana, just before 12:30 p.m. on January 20.

    According to Helena Assistant Fire Chief Ken Wood, the aircraft clipped a tree before it crashed into a section of house and a shed.
    Two men, both in their 70s, were injured in the accident and were taken to St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

    The homeowner James Samargo and his girlfriend Jennifer Loayza were inside the house at the time but remained unharmed.

    The plane, registered to Robert Henry Koch and Kristina Koch of Helena, sustained heavy damage. Authorities said a power line was also affected in the wreck.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Virgin Flight Diverts to Melbourne

    On Feb 22, 2013, a Boeing 737-800 Virgin Australia flight was in the air for ten minutes when the crew detected an odor in the cockpit.

    The pilot returned to Melbourne and made a safe landing at 9:09 a.m.

    Passengers were provided alternative flights. There were 129 passengers aboard.

    The incident is under investigation. The source of the odor is not yet known.

    Why: The Plane’s autopilot, yaw damp and pitch trim malfunctioned in the first 45 minutes of Crist’s flight from Tallahassee. The yaw damp is part of the autopilot system that helps stabilizes the tail, and the pitch trim the craft’s up and down movement.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Rome

    lufthansabombardierA Lufthansa’s flight had to land in emergency in Rome due to a medical emergency, on the afternoon of June 27.

    The flight took off from Frankfurt, Germany for Malta at about 1.22 p.m., however, soon afterwards, the Airbus A320 was diverted to Rome for offloading a sick passenger.

    The plane landed safely. According to a Lufthansa spokesman, the plane resumed its journey to Malta after refueling.
