    All Nippon Airways flight NH-936 dropped a panel while descending toward Narita International Airport, Japan, on September 27th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 767-300 plane was flying from Xiamen, China.

    Air France Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    The Boeing 777, heading from Tokyo to Paris, was diverted after one of its engines failed.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Diverts to Georgia due to Dripping Ceiling, Smoke and Smell

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1694 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 737-300 flying from Tampa, Florida, to Nashville, Tennessee, had to divert due to water dripping off its ceiling, smoke, and unusual smell aboard.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 129 passengers aboard remained safe.

    Safair Plane Returns for a Safe Landing in Cape Town

    SafairSafair flight FA-136 had to return and make an emergency landing at Cape Town International Airport, South Africa, on March 6.

    The Boeing 737-400, heading from Cape Town, to Port Elizabeth, was mid air when it had to return due to some issue with its air conditioning system.

    The plane landed safely.

    All passengers and crew member aboard remained unhurt.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to Las Vegas due to Control Issue

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight WN-4077 had to return and make an emergency landing in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane took off for Ontario, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported a control issue.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Virgin Australia Hits Turbulence

    What: Virgin Australia Boeing 777-300 en route from Phuket Thailand to Melbourne
    Where: over Jakarta
    When: Jan 31, 2011
    Who: 4 passengers, 4 flight attendants
    Why: While en route, the flight encountered twenty seconds of turbulence that tossed just-served food, flight attendants, passengers and trolleys around, and shook them up. On encountering the turbulence, the pilot made an announcement requesting “passengers buckle their seatbelts.”

    Two to four members of the flight crew sustained minor injuries, and four passengers. They were attended by paramedics six hours after the turbulence, on landing at Melbourne.

    Reports of food poisoning on this flight were unsubstantiated.
