    ExpressJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chattanooga

    ExpressJetExpressJet flight EV-5583 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 22nd.

    The plane took off for Atlanta, Georgia, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew noticed that a nose gear door was open.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Kansas City

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight 5929 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Kansas City International airport, Missouri, on November 22.

    The plane was heading from Indianapolis to Los Angeles when the crew reported suspicious and unruly behavior of three passengers and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    The disruptive trio were taken for questioning while K-9 police dogs thoroughly searched the aircraft.

    Authorities said the search teams found nothing unusual and the flight resumed after a while. The three passengers were also booked on a later flight.

    What: Eurolot Polish Airlines Eurolot ATR 72 en route from Krakaw to Warsaw
    Where: John Paul II Balice International Airport, Warsaw Poland
    When: April 29 2010
    Who: 27 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: In mid flight, the pilot detected cabin pressure problems, and had inconsistent readings. He reduced his altitude to handle the cabin pressure, and told ATC he would be crash-landing; however, the landing was normal.

    Iberia Express Plane Returns to Berlin

    IberiaIberia Express flight IB-3673 had to return and make an emergency landing in Berlin, Germany, on November 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Madrid, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after a ground observer reported seeing a jet of flame emitting from the left hand engine.

    The crew subsequently declared an emergency and turned back toward Berlin.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: United Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Washington DC to Las Vegas
    Where: Denver
    When: Jan 23rd 2010
    Who: 129 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: Things were humming along normally on the flight when 24 miles from Denver, a passenger–who had taken medication and alcohol–was apparently disoriented and attempted to open the door. Other passengers subdued him; and the pilot made a stop in Denver to hand the passenger over to authorities (where the man will be going mental evaluation, and who knows what else, with attention from the FBI and police.)

    (And hopefully AA or The Betty Ford Clinic.)

    United Airlines Flight From Cleveland Encounters Turbulence

    United Airlines flight UA-4204 encountered turbulence on the way to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia, on January 23rd.

    The plane was flying from Cleveland, Ohio, when it hit turbulence that injured a flight attendant.

    The plane continued for a safe landing.
