    Where: Eppley, Omaha

    Who: 72 people aboard
    Why: Just after takeoff, the jet flew through a flock of birds and sustained numerous bird strikes. The pilot returned to the airport for a safe landing. Passengers were rebooked.

    NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and her Expedition 52 crew are scheduled to return to Earth Saturday, Sept. 2. NASA TV and website will provide complete coverage.

    The complete schedule of return (all times EDT):

    2:15 p.m. – farewell and hatch closure (hatch closure at 2:40 p.m.)
    5:30 p.m. – undocking (undocking at 5:58 p.m.)
    8 p.m. – deorbit burn and landing (deorbit burn at 8:29 p.m. and landing at 9:22 p.m.)
    11 p.m. – replay of hatch closure, undocking and landing activities

    Military Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing in Japan due to Technical Complications

    A military aircraft had to divert and make an emergency landing at Yokota Air Base, Fussa, Japan, on September 15th.

    The KC-135 Stratotanker was on its routine mission when it encountered some complications mid-air, forcing the pilot to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    No one was injured.

    UPS Plane makes Emergency landing in Alaska after Oil Leakage

    UPSUPS flight 5X-63 made a safe emergency landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Anchorage, Alaska, on May 16th.

    The Boeing 747-400, flying from Hong Kong, China, was flying above the Pacific Ocean when the crew notice a slow oil leakage from one of its engines. The crew had to shut the engine down before landing.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Italy

    Ryanair flight FR-8409 made an emergency landing at Orio al Serio International Airport, Italy, on May 19th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Budapest, Hungary, was descending toward Orio al Serio International Airport when the crew reported that one of the engines was off.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Hydraulic Failure

    Air India flight AI-662 made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India, on January 7th.

    The plane was flying from Goa, India, when the crew declared an emergency due to a hydraulic failure.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
