Allegiant Flight 916 had to land in emergency at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in Florida after 4 people got injured midair due to heavy turbulence, on the afternoon of August 4.
The MD-83 aircraft, carrying 147 passengers and 6 crew members aboard, was en route from Ft. Lauderdale to Asheville, North Carolina when it hit heavy turbulence and made a sudden dive of several thousand feet.
According to the Airline sources, the flight faced extraordinary turbulence for about 30 to 40 minutes. Four people aboard, including a flight attendant and three passengers suffered minor injuries in this situation.
The airline also confirmed that the seat belt signs were turned on during the time.
