    Airbus with Retread Throws Tread in Toronto

    What: Air Transat Airbus A330-300 en route from Toronto to Dublin
    Where: Toronto
    When: Jul 15th 2011
    Who: 314 passengers
    Why: During takeoff, a tire was damaged. The tire caused damage to several parts of the plane, which initially had been attributed to a bird strike. Tire debris (tread) was found on the runway.

    The flight continued to Dublin, where the plane made a safe landing on a tire which had lost tread. On inspection, it was found that a wing panel and a landing gear door needed repair, having been damaged on takeoff by tread.

    A replacement flight was sent to Dublin to make the return flight.

    WOW Air Plane makes Safe Landing in Maryland after Bird Strike

    WOW AirWOW Air flight WW-117 made a safe landing at Baltimore–Washington International Airport, Baltimore, Maryland, on September 5th.

    The Airbus A321-200 flying from Keflavik, Iceland, was about to land when a lot of noise was heard due to bird strike.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Swiss International Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    Swiss International Air Lines flight LX-734 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on September 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Zurich, Switzerland, was on approach to Amsterdam when the crew reported a possible nose gear steering issue.

    The plane performed a low approach and subsequently landed safely on second approach.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The plane was towed off the runway.

    Virgin and Jetstar Collide in Australia


    A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 scheduled from Melbourne to Maroochydore had a ground accident on the tarmac.

    The plane collided with a Jetstar AirbusA320. None of the 175 passengers on the Virgin flight were injured but both planes sustained damage.

    The Boeing’s left winglet was damaged.

    The Virgin Australia plane was reversing.

    The Jetstar sustained damage to the tail. It had just returned from Sydney, and was stationary during the collision.

    An investigation is ongoing. Damages of about three million are estimated to each craft.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Mexico City due to Engine Issue

    Delta Airlines flight DL-603 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mexico City, Mexico, on November 26th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Salt Lake City, Utah, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Helicopter and Plane Collide Mid-Air in Buckinghamshire; Four Killed

    A two-seater plane collided mid-air with a helicopter in Buckinghamshire, England, on November 17th.

    It is believed that both aircraft were flying from Wycombe Air Park when they collided near Waddesdon.

    Four people were killed in the crash.

    The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating the cause of accident.
