Who: 320 passengers
Why: While en route over the ocean near Amsterdam, the cabin filled with smoke. The crew diverted to London where they made a safe landing. The source of the smoke was determined to be packaging in an oven. Although the smoke had dispersed, the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Emergency Services were on hand.The plane was routed to Manchester for a crew change before the flight could be resumed.

South African Airways Flight Returns to JFK Airport
South African Airways flight SA-204 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on December 3rd.The plane took off for Johannesburg, South Africa, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew failed to retract the flaps.
The plane dumped excess fuel before it landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Why: While en route, the crew smelled smoke in the cabin.They diverted to Jacksonville. By the time they landed, the odor dissipated. The plane was examined; and a replacement MD-83 was flown in.
Passengers arrived 2 and a half hours late.
Ryanair Plane Rejects Takeoff in Ireland due to Flight Operations Issue
Ryanair flight FR-8011 had to abort takeoff at Dublin Airport, Republic of Ireland, on June 3rd.The Boeing 737-800 was accelerating to takeoff for Warsaw, Poland, when the crew reported they had a flight operations issue.
The plane resumed its flight 20 minutes later.

American Airlines Flight Diverts to Phoenix After Hydraulic Leak
American Airlines flight AA-1799 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 12th.The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Charlotte, North Carolina, to San Francisco, California, was diverted due to a hydraulic leak.
The plane landed safely. There were 160 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

Cathay Pacific Makes Emergency Landing
What: Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER en route from Hong Kong to Los Angeles
Where: Anchorage
When: Nov 22, 2012
Who: 288 passengers and 18 crew
Why: While en route, the Cathay Pacific developed a pressurization problem and had to make an emergency landing in Alaska. There were no injuries. When the pressurization problem developed, oxygen masks were deployed.Cathay Pacific and the Civil Aviation Department will be investigating.
Passengers were provided hotel accommodations and an alternative flight.
The cause of the pressurization problem is speculated to be a malfunctioning valve in the air system
