    What: Estonia Air Boeing 737 en route from Tallinn to Copenhagen
    Where: Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport
    When: Jan 16, 2011
    Why: A leak in a water pipe set off electrical problems. The pilots returned to the airport and made a safe landing.

    Passengers were provided an later flight.

    Japan Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tokyo

    Japan Airlines flight JL-21 made an emergency landing in Tokyo, Japan, on March 6th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane took off for Beijing, China, but had to turn back after the crew noticed a crack in captain’s windshield.

    The plane landed safely. There were 169 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Azul Brazilian Airlines Plane Returns to Brazil due to Smell of Smoke

    Azul Brazilian Airlines flight AD-6970 had to return and make an emergency landing at Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport, Brazil, on May 31st.

    The Airbus A330-200, flying to Sao Paulo Viracopos, Brazil, had to return due to a strong smell of smoke on board.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    LATAM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Belo Horizonte

    LATAM flight LA-8084 made an emergency landing in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on December 20th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane heading from Sao Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, Brazil, to Heathrow Airport, England, was diverted due to electrical problems.

    Several tires deflated as the plane touched down.

    All three hundred and forty-one passengers and sixteen crew members remained unharmed.

    Brussels Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Heathrow Airport

    Brussels Airlines flight SN-2104 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on August 26th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Brussels, Belgium, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Vegas Metro Helicopter Lands Safely


    What: Metro helicopter
    Where: vacant lot near Fremont Street and Bruce in Downtown Las Vegas.
    When: Nov 5, 2008
    Who: Unnamed officers and pilot
    Why:Witnesses saw the helicopter swaying back and forth before it landed safely. Pilots anticipated a problem and landed on the empty lot. Maintenance staff was able to do on site repairs to the part that controls the rotor speed so that the helicopter was able to take off, and return the helicopter back to the hanger where it landed safely.
