    Continental Engine Shut Down over Indianapolis

    What: Continental Express/Expressjet Embraer ERJ-145 en route from Indianapolis to Newark
    Where: Indianapolis
    When: June 1, 2011
    Who: 51
    Why: While en route, the flight developed an oil pressure problem. At 10,000 feet, the pilot requested a return to the airport due to the engine issue. He shut down the left engine and returned to Indianapolis to make a safe landing.

    Passengers were rerouted to alternative flights.

    Emergency Landing in Malta

    What: Smartlynx Airbus A320-200 en route from Tenerife to Antalya
    Where: Malta
    When: Oct 22 2010
    Why: While en route, the flight suffered a loss of cabin pressure. The pilot diverted to Malta where they made a safe landing. In less than 24 hours, the plane was en route again. Disposition of the passengers is unknown.

    Delta Flight Diverted to Boston

    What: Delta Air Lines en route from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, was bound for Tel Aviv, Israel.
    Where: Boston’s Logan International Airport
    When: 10 p.m Apr 25, 2009
    Who: 206 passengers and 11 crew members aboard
    Why: After take-off, an unruly passenger attempted to break into the cockpit. The incident was not terrorism related; the passenger reportedly had an anxiety/panic attack. He was subdued by other passengers.

    Washington National: Act I

    What: American Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Miami,FL to Washington National,DC
    Where: Washington
    When: Mar 22nd 2011
    Who: 97 people on board
    Why: On approach to Washington National, the crew found themselves without feedback from ATC. They declared the airport uncontrolled. The tower frequency was declared an advisory frequency and landed safely without clearance.

    Minneapolis-Bound Delta Flight Returns to LAX

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight 2116 had to return and make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California, shortly after 9:30 a.m. on January 13.

    The Boeing 757 took off for Minneapolis at about 8:30 a.m. but had to turn back shortly afterwards due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed safely after shedding off extra fuel. All 146 passengers and 6 crew members aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline later said in a statement, “The crew of Delta flight 2116 from Los Angeles to Minneapolis/St. Paul followed procedures to return to Los Angeles International after a potential systems issue was observed. The aircraft landed safely without incident and taxied to the gate under its own power. Delta is currently working to accommodate customers while technicians examine the aircraft. Safety is always Delta’s top priority and apologizes to customers for the inconvenience.”
