    What: Kuwait Airways Airbus 340-300 en route from Kuwait City (Kuwait) to London Heathrow
    Where: Kuwait
    When: Dec 6th 2010
    Why: On takeoff from Kuwait City, the plane could not retract the landing gear. According to Al Abdulkarim, the procedure was routine, not an emergency. The crew returned to the airport, made a safe landing, and the problem was promptly repaired. The problem was apparently in the indicator, not the plane. After the warning light was repaired, the flight took off again within hours.

    This is the third time in two months that Kuwait Airways made an emergency landing after take-off.

    Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Tokyo Narita Airport

    Delta Airlines flight DL-38 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Tokyo Narita Airport, Japan, on October 19th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Hong Kong, China, to Seattle, Washington, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All two hundred and thirty people aboard remained unharmed.

    Tragic Crash Kills Ontario Family

    What: Piper PA-28R-180 Cherokee Arrow en route from Kingston to Sudbury, Ontario
    Where: Devine Lake in Algonquin Park
    When: Saturday October 10
    Who: Pilot Kevin Houle, wife Lorraine Houle, granddaughter Emily and her boyfriend, Michael Rollins
    Why: It is speculated that the plane ran into weather as a distress call was heard from the plane, and the weather was rainy and icy at the time.

    The plane hit a tree and one of the wings was broken.

    The family was killed in the crash.

    The plane belonged to Kevin’s company, Tracks & Wheels Equipment Brokers. Kevin had been a pilot for a couple of years.

    AirTran Airways Engine Sparks Emergency Landing

    What: AirTran Airways Boeing 717-200 en route from Orlando to Akron
    Where: Orlando
    When: Oct 4th 2009
    Who: 122 on board (117 passengers and 5 crew)
    Why: The flight experienced engine problems–fire in the left engine– and made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff.

    Ground personnel witnessed sparks from the left engine. When passengers debarked by emergency chute, one was injured. Passengers were bussed off the tarmac where they were eventually transferred to a replacement Boeing.

    Rossiya Airlines Plane Runs Over Ground Worker’s Foot at Gatwick Airport

    A Rossiya Airlines Airbus A319-100 plane ran over a ground worker’s foot during push back at Gatwick Airport, England, on March 28th.

    The incident happened when the flight FV-6620 was preparing to depart for Saint Petersburg, Russia.

    The ground worker was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

    The plane returned to the gate and was taken out of service.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Unusual Odor in Cockpit Forced Lufthansa Flight to Divert

    LufthansaLufthansa flight LH2505 made an emergency landing at Stuttgart Airport, Germany, on November 13.

    The flight heading from Manchester to Munich wad forced to land in emergency after an unusual odor was discovered in the cockpit.

    Ambulances and fire services were put on alert at the airport when the Airbus A321-231 landed uneventfully. All 82 passengers aboard remained unharmed.
