These events happened more than two years ago, and we believe this action is unwarranted. We plan to follow the FAA’s process and will challenge any proposed civil penalty. We are confident we have a strong case and the facts will bear this out. Receipt of the FAA proposed penalty will give us the chance to present the facts, which will support our actions taken back in early 2008. American Airlines has always maintained its aircraft to the highest standards, and we continue to do so. We assure our customers there was never a safety of flight issue surrounding these circumstances more than two years ago.

AA Credit Union Employees Donate $3,090 to the North Texas Food Bank Virtual can Drive
FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 20, 2010 — AA Credit Union has proudly presented the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) with a $3,090 donation as a result of the Credit Union’s weeklong virtual canned food drive.
In early December, Credit Union employees participated in a special Dress Down Days fund-raiser, contributing $5 a day or $20 for the entire week in exchange for being able to wear jeans and sneakers to work.
The drive was part of the North Texas Food Bank’s “Close the Gap on Hunger in North Texas” campaign. “Close the Gap” is the NTFB’s three-year initiative to unite the community to narrow the food gap by providing access to 50 million meals annually by 2011.
“Virtual Canned Food Drives eliminate the hidden costs associated with a regular canned food drive,” said Sophia Sindalovsky, Volunteer Coordinator of the NTFB. “It also provides much more assistance to North Texans by leveraging donations to provide four meals for every dollar raised. Giving has never been easier.” The Credit Union’s donation equates to nearly 12,360 meals for North Texans.

SPACE STATION ASTRONAUTS TO CONNECT WITH CENTRAL FLORIDA STUDENTS
WASHINGTON — International Space Station residents Scott Kelly, Cady Coleman and Paolo Nespoli will speak on Tuesday, Jan. 11, to 150 students from Kathleen High School’s Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA) in Lakeland, Fla.
The CFAA prepares students to go into advanced aerospace education or the aerospace industry. In 2009, the academy received an agency grant to develop a NASA-based science, technology, engineering and , or STEM, curriculum.
The station astronauts will answer student questions on Jan. 11, from 11-11:20 a.m. EST. In preparation for the conversation with astronauts in space, the students have been participating in science activities, exploring careers in science with local scientists and engineers, studying a floor plan of the International Space Station and learning about experiments in microgravity.
The event will air live on NASA Television and on the agency’s website. Media interested in attending this event should contact Obie Young at 407-341-3072 by 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10.
The live downlink will be shared with other students through the Florida Aviation Network, the Federal Aviation Administration Training Network and the Government Educational Training Network. NASA astronauts Kelly and Coleman and Nespoli of the European Space Agency are conducting science experiments aboard the space station. Kelly serves as the Expedition 26 commander until March when he returns home. Coleman and Nespoli will complete their station mission in May.
This live, in-flight education downlink is one in a series with educational organizations in the U.S. and abroad to improve teaching and learning in STEM subjects. It is an integral component of Teaching From Space, a NASA education program. Boeing Helps Prepare Danish Machining Firm Multicut for Aerospace Quality Management System Certification
VILDBJERG, Denmark, Feb. 11, 2010 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] this week launched an industrial-cooperation project to assist Multicut, a high-end machining firm based in Vildbjerg, as it pursues AS/EN 9100 certification. This project supports the Boeing industrial-cooperation program that is tied to Denmark’s New Combat Aircraft competition. The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter is a finalist in the contest.
The project began with a Boeing Supplier Quality expert training Multicut employees on the quality management system (QMS) requirements used across the aerospace industry. Over the coming months, the Boeing expert and a third-party QMS specialist also will assess Multicut’s overall operations in preparation for its AS/EN 9100 certification audit later this year, and provide any necessary follow-up guidance.
“As a company with a clear goal to expand into the global aerospace market and preserve jobs for Danish industry workers, it is invaluable for us to tap into Boeing’s quality management system expertise,” said Frank Dühring, Business Development manager for Multicut. “The training and assessments will help us gain AS/EN 9100 certification, which is a ‘must have’ for winning subcontracts from the main players in the aerospace industry.”AS/EN 9100 is based on ISO 9001 standards, with additional specific requirements for aerospace manufacturing. Most major aerospace manufacturers, and their suppliers, require AS/EN 9100 compliance. In adopting this standard, Multicut also expects to benefit from quality improvements and cost reductions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 5, 2010 Washington, DC – National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman today encouraged the sleep research and healthcare community to continue their efforts to educate transportation policy makers of the dangers of fatigue in all modes of transportation.
Speaking before the annual conference of the National Sleep Foundation in Washington, D.C., Chairman Hersman remarked that fatigue has been a concern for the Board since the creation of the agency in 1967 and it has been an issue on the Board’s Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety Improvements since the list was established in 1990.
“The work of the National Sleep Foundation and other organizations and individuals is critical to improving transportation safety policy,” said Chairman Hersman. “The NTSB is interested and willing to partner with you in developing a greater awareness of fatigue.”
Hersman highlighted a number of accident investigations across all transportation modes that included fatigue as the probable cause or a contributing factor to accidents. As a result, the Board has made safety recommendations that range from deploying fatigue detection systems to reduce the occurrence of accidents to installing electronic on-board recorders that collect and maintain hours of service data on vehicle operators.
“We can’t always prove fatigue as a cause of an accident, but the frequency with which we now routinely document the presence of fatigue-related factors in transportation operations is alarming,” Hersman stated.
Hersman remarked that while there are still no definitive tools to conclusively identify the degree to which a person is fatigued, the major challenge is to ensure that all those in transportation report to work rested and fit for duty — for their own safety and for the safety of those they are transporting.

American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Arkansas due to Bad Weather
American Airlines flight 3358 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 30th.The aircraft was heading from Dallas, Texas to Memphis, Tennessee, when it encountered bad weather, resulting in extreme turbulence inside the plane, prompting it to divert.
The plane landed uneventfully.
Two flight attendants received minor injuries while the passengers remained unharmed.
The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.
