PSA Airlines flight JIA-9925 had to return and make an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 20th.
The plane took off for Charlotte, North Carolina, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a gear problem.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
A small plane crashed near the town of Butte in Alaska, on October 29th.
Authorities said the Cessna 172 plane crashed into a Knik River gravel bar.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. He was identified as 25-year-old Ray Justen.
According to Alaska National Transportation Safety Board chief Clint Johnson, “Witnesses said this airplane came in, made a touch-and-go on a gravel bar and during a fairly steep climb out there was an aerodynamic stall…The airplane descended nose-first and struck the gravel bar.”
Although Southwest has outstanding legal claims against Los Angeles World Airports, the following items are are on the table:
Southwest Airlines will
Los Angeles World Airports will fund most of the renovations, along with—hopefully—federal grant money. Los Angeles World Airports may give the airline rent credits or by pay a lump sum.
If the lease is signed Southwest will drop legal claims against Los Angeles World Airports; if renovation proceeds, Southwest will pay about $9.5 million in rent the first year, and US Airways will move to Terminal 3.
The Board of Airport Commissioners has approved improvements in “dog-eared” Terminal one.
A British Airways flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at St. John’s International Airport, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, on October 13th.
The Boeing 777 was en-route from London to Tampa, Florida, when the crew reported medical emergency aboard.
The plane landed uneventfully.
The passenger was taken for treatment.
Joshua Carl Lee Suggs, 23, a man from Sacramento, tried to open the rear exit door of the Southwest Airlines airplane flying from Chicago’s Midway Airport to Sacramento on April 13. The captain made an emergency landing in Omaha, Nebraska.
Airport police arrested and escorted Suggs after landing. Federal officials said he could face charges of interference with flight crew members and attendants. This is punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. He will be presented in Omaha court on April 16.
The flight 722 carrying 134 passengers and 5 crew members arrived in Sacramento two hours behind the schedule after removing the unruly passenger at Nebraska.
The other passengers reported that Suggs was acting strangely even before he tried to open the door and jump out of the plane. He emerged soaking wet from the bathroom of the plane at one point. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs or psychotic. He was physically overpowered by other male passengers of the plane on the request of the crew members.
Lt. Lance Leone, the co-pilot aboard Coast Guard helicopter 6017 on July 7, 2010 when it struck some wires between the mainland and an island near La Push, Washington, was charged with negligent homicide and destruction of government property, and dereliction of duty.
Those charges have been dropped.
The crash killed the chopper’s pilot, Lt. Sean Krueger, along with Aviation Maintenance Technicians Brett Banks and Adam Hoke. The charges had been levied in accordance with the strict culture of discipline and accountability. The inherent danger of Coast Guard operations is a given, but the three fatalities warranted a full investigation.
Lt. Lance Leone hopes to be in retraining soon in accordance with the Coast Guard mission, pass retraining, and securing a new Coast Guard assignment flying and rescuing.
Boliviana de Aviacion flight OB-442 made an emergency landing in La Paz, Bolivia, on August 18th.
The Boeing 737-300 aircraft had departed for Cochabamba, Bolivia, when the crew reported that cabin did not pressurize and decided to turn back.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.
