What: Wesvin Inc Piper PA-34 Where: KENOVA, W.Va 1.5 miles from the Wayne County airport When: after 1 p.m. Jan 30 2009 Who: Pilot and six passengers were killed in the crash Why: The plane was low on fuel and made a sudden 180-degree turn before losing contact with controllers at Tri-State. The plane struck struck a 345-kilovolt distribution lines.
The wings are broken; the propellor separated and propeller blade is missing.

What: single-engine Mooney plane en route from La Serena to Santiago. Where: 474 km north of the Chilean capital of Santiago When: Jan 11, 2010 Who: 4 fatalities (pilot and 3 businessmen) Why: The light plane crashed for unknown reasons. A beacon initially led searchers to Chicurea but the wreckage was found by Chile’s Air Force Search and Rescue (two Chilean air force planes and a helicopter) in La Cachimba valley, 22 km from La Serena.

What: Irish Air Corps Pilatus PC-9(M) out of Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel Where: Crumlin East near Cornamona in Connemara Ireland When: 12-OCT-2009 Who: 2 fatalities: Captain Derek Furniss, 32, from Rathfarnham in Dublin and Cadet David Jevens, 22, from Glynn in Co Wexford. Why: The crash occurred in a remote area during a training flight. Two other planes involved in the same exercise returned safely to Galway airport. The crash is under investigation.

During a training exercise, a Yemeni military fighter jet crashed in Sana’a, Yemen, killing the pilot—although one report says the pilot ejected. Witnesses hearing a loud explosion on impact, and report black smoke. The pilot was named as Mohamed Shaker. In addition to the pilot, there were 12 fatalities and 18 injuries.
The pilot was returning to base after a training mission and requested authorization to land when the aircraft lost altitude and crashed.
The plane was a Russian SU-22 that struck three buildings in al-Qadissiya near Change Square. It struck a building on Rabat Avenue, then hit another and ended up on a third building. Several cars were on fire. Five bodies that were recovered were burned beyond recognition.
All of the victims were civilians and included three women and two children. Several ambulances responded. Some reports said they took a long time to arrive.
A 4-seater Cessna plane, heading to Hwange National Parks, crashed near Lupinyu business center close to Victoria Falls Airport, Zimbabwe, in the afternoon of August 11.
According to the officer commanding Victoria Falls police, Jairos Chiwona, “The crash happened a few minutes after take-off from the airport. The pilot communicated that he was turning back soon after the take-off because the plane was having engine problems.”
Three people aboard the plane, including 2 Australian tourists and a German pilot, suffered critical injuries. They were transported to Chinotimba Medical Centre and Victoria Falls District Hospital.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
