Design of umbrella-like mechanically deployable aerodynamic decelerators on the basis of plane-symmetric 7R linkages
In the field of planetary exploration, mechanically deployable aerodynamic decelerators (MDADs) are critical for planetary entry, descent, and landing systems, as they offer lower ballistic coefficients compared to rigid aeroshells. However, existing MDADs face challenges such as insufficient thermal protection, structural deformation, and limited circumferential support for the thermal protection system (TPS), which affect their stability and reliability during descent.

NTSB to give update on deadly midair crash near DCA. Here’s what’s known so far
An American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter collided on Jan. 29 as the plane prepared to land at Washington, D.C.’s Ronald Reagan National Airport. Both plunged into the Potomac River, killing the 67 people aboard both aircraft. It was the deadliest plane crash in the U.S. since 2001. Much of the attention since the collision has focused on the helicopter’s altitude, and whether it could have been flying too high. The National Transportation Safety Board plans to provide an update Tuesday on its investigation. Investigators previously said the helicopter crew may not have heard key instructions from air traffic controllers.
