According to AP, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday it’s too early to say when aviation officials can lift a ban on liquids on board flights despite international officials saying it could come as early as 2012.
The US has not set a date.
However the ICAO says the ban should continue as long as there’s a threat but they have set a phase out date in 2013.
Ethiopian Airlines’ 777-200LR carries more than $500K worth of anesthesia equipment to Ethiopia’s largest hospital
EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 17, 2010 — Boeing partnered with Ethiopian Airlines and Seattle Anesthesia Outreach (SAO) for this week’s 777-200LR (longer range) delivery to Ethiopian Airlines to transport much needed anesthesia equipment to Black Lion Hospital – Ethiopia’s largest hospital.
“Boeing and its airline partners have been working together to fill what is sometimes empty cargo space to help bring relief to people around the globe,” said Liz Warman, director of Boeing Global Corporate Citizenship for the Northwest region. “Our company has a history in humanitarian efforts. Our Humanitarian Delivery Flights program is another way we can continue leveraging our resources to help those in need.”

Ethiopian Airlines’ new 777-200LR (its second of five 777-200LRs on order) will deliver approximately 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg) of medical supplies, mainly anesthesia machines, monitors and books, from Seattle Anesthesia Outreach to Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Black Lion Hospital is the largest hospital in Ethiopia as well as the largest teaching hospital for the University of Addis Medical School.
“We’re thrilled at the opportunity to work with Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines to use this flight to support our efforts in Ethiopia,” said Dr. Mark Cullen, vice president and co-founder of SAO. “These supplies will prove critical when a group of 20 doctors travel to Ethiopia in February as part of our ongoing humanitarian trips to the region.”
A majority of the medical supplies being shipped to Ethiopia were donated by Swedish Medical Center, which is the largest and most comprehensive non-profit health provider in the greater Seattle area. In addition to the donation of medical supplies, 12 affiliated physicians and clinical staff from Swedish have donated vacation time to volunteer as part of SAO’s humanitarian trips to Ethiopia.
The Boeing Humanitarian Delivery Flights (HDF) program is a collaboration effort between Boeing, airline customers and non-profit organizations to deliver humanitarian aid throughout the world to communities in need or crisis. The humanitarian items are loaded into the empty cargo space of new airplanes being delivered and transported to the customer’s home destination.

The actions, which include biasing its shopping displays, are anti-consumer, anti-competitive and harmful to its subscribing agents.
Sabre’s actions are discriminatory and patently inconsistent with both its contractual obligations and its professed goal of ensuring full transparency for the benefit of consumers and travel agents. In contrast, the actions only serve to protect Sabre’s market position and attempt to force airlines and travel agencies to rely exclusively on its legacy systems that only lead to higher fares and fewer choices for consumers.

LOS ANGELES – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing a $207,200 civil penalty against J.R. Simplot Company of Boise, Idaho, for alleged violations of Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Regulations.
The FAA alleges Simplot offered a non-standard fiberboard box containing a five-gallon plastic jug of bactericide and fungicide to United Parcel Service (UPS) for transportation by air from Union Gap, Wash. to New Harmony, Utah, on Oct. 28, 2009.
According to U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, the mixture of hydrogen peroxide and peroxyacetic acids is classified as an oxidizer, which is a hazardous material.
The FAA alleges the package was not declared to contain hazardous materials and that the materials offered were not properly classed, described, packaged, marked, labeled and in proper condition for shipment under the hazardous materials regulations. Additionally, the agency alleges the quantity of liquid in the shipment exceeded the maximum amount that can be transported on a cargo aircraft.
Employees at UPS’s Ontario, California, sorting facility discovered the leaking package.
Simplot has 30 days from receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the Agency.

EASA published today a Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA 2010-14) on flight and duty time limitations and rest requirements (FTL) for commercial air transport by aeroplanes. FTL rules aim at avoiding crew fatigue by introducing limitations to the way crews can be scheduled by airlines. This NPA proposes a number of safety improvements and areas for European harmonisation.
The European Parliament and the European Commission requested EASA to conduct a scientific and medical evaluation of the current regulation which allows national provisions in areas such as augmented flight crew, split duty, time zone crossing, reduced rest and standby, and to propose a set of fully harmonised rules. The new proposal is the result of the work of a rulemaking group that includes National Aviation Authorities, Airlines and Flight and Cabin Crew representatives.
This proposal is the first step in a fully transparent public consultation process. Comments will be reviewed and a Comment Response Document (CRD) will be available for public consultation. At the end of the consultation process, EASA will present a final Opinion to the European Commission that will then launch the final process for adoption by the European Parliament and European Council in April 2012.
ST. LOUIS, July 29, 2010 — A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III airlifter crashed on the evening of July 28 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Four crewmembers are reported to have been killed in the crash. The Boeing Company today released the following statement:
