Why: While en route, the flight developed engine problems. The flight diverted to Nyköping Sweden where passengers disembarked, and were provided an alternate plane.
TUI fly flight X3-6315 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on March 2nd.
The Boeing 737-800 plane took off from Hurghada, Egypt, but burst multiple tires during departure.
The crew subsequently diverted to Munich where the plane landed safely.
The flight was originally scheduled for Stuttgart, Germany.
Virgin Atlantic flight VS-44 made an emergency landing in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 6th.
The Boeing 747-400 plane was flying to Gatwick Airport, England, when the crew decided to turn back due to a wheel well fire indication.
The plane landed safely. There were 359 people aboard at the time; all of the remained unhurt.
Air Canada Jazz flight 8992 had to make an emergency landing at St. John’s airport in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, on May 10.
The plane was flying from Halifax to St. John’s airport when it conducted a missed approach, indicating a fault in its hydraulic and landing gear mechanism.
The crew then manually deployed the landing gear and made a successful emergency landing.
Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
British Airways flight BA-242 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mexico City, Mexico, on July 17th.
The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for Heathrow Airport, England, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a pressurization issue.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: Royal Air Lear (Cargo) jet en route to Wheeling illinois
Where: S of Chicago
When: January 5th 2010, 2 pm
Who: Pilot
Why: On the landing approach to Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, Ill., witnesses saw the plane go down in the Cook County Forest Preserve on the banks of the Des Plaines River. The plane came to rest in about 4 feet of water.

What: United flight en route from San Francisco to Chicago
Where: Sioux Falls
When: July 5 2010
Who: about 200 passengers
Why: After leaving San Francisco thirty-five minutes late, the United plane’s left engine caught on fire and the plane diverted to Sioux Falls where they made a safe landing. Passengers anticipate being rerouted and facing multiple layovers before reaching their destination.
