    Helicopter crashes into houses in Antigua, 4 Injured

    Where: Antigua, Guatemala

    Who: Four injured
    Why: A helicopter flying over Antigua for aerial photography crashed into two houses at 9:30 in the morning.

    No residents were at home at the time of the crash. Three Guatemalans and one American were injured in the crash. The American broke his tibia and fibula. The injured were taken to National Hospital. The American was identified only as Michael; the others were Juan Carlos Menendez, 40, Andres Turcios, 32, and Octavio Gordillo, 52.

    The helicopter was broken in two by the impact. The translation of an unverified newspaper report said that the pilot had been flying low when a bird hit the rotors.

    Chopper Crashes Palm Beach House


    What: Rented Robinson R22 recreational chopper
    Where: Palm Beach
    When: Nov 5, 2011
    Who: 1 pilot, 1 passenger
    Why: The rented recreational chopper struck palm trees and power lines, then clipped the house, landing in the front yard. No fatalities. The damage to the chopper is described as substantial.

    1 Killed, 2 Injured after Cessna Crashed in Central Wisconsin

    Cessna in snowA single-engine Cessna 182 crashed near Owen in central Wisconsin at around 11 a.m. on January 26.

    The plane, carrying the pilot, Mark Siegwart, 27, of Hammond, Indiana, Nathan Smoot, 41, of North Pole, Alaska and Martin Siegwart, 56, of Boon, Michigan, was flying from Hammond, Indiana when it went down.

    According to Clark County Sheriff Greg Herrick, “Nathan and Mark were friends and were flying the recently purchased plane back to Alaska from the Griffith Airport in Hammond, Ind…Along the way, they stopped in Cadillac, Mich., and picked up Mark’s father who was accompanying them on the trip.”

    According to the pilot, the aircraft began to ice up and lose altitude. He was attempting an emergency landing on a road when it crashed.

    Martin Siegwart was pronounced dead at the spot, while Mark and Nathan were injured. Both of the injured were shifted to hospital where the authorities confirmed that Nathan was later discharged while Mark was in stable condition.

    PHI Medical Evacuation Emergency Landing

    Where: emergency landing about 11 miles south of Lafayette–a parking lot at U.S. 231 and Indiana 28 in Romney
    When: Monday afternoon
    Who: A pilot, nurse, paramedic and patient
    Why: The PHI Bell 407 medical helicopter a patient when it was forced to land due to a mechanical problem Monday afternoon. An ambulance carried the patient to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lafayette.

    8 Killed, 2 Injured in Romanian Military Helicopter Crash

    helicopterA Romanian military helicopter crashed in Malancrav, some 350 kilometers from Bucharest, Romania, on the morning of November 21.

    The defense ministry officials said that the IAR-330 helicopter was on a training flight when it crashed.

    Eight military officials were killed in the accident while 2 others were injured. Their identities have not yet been released.

    The cause of crash is not clear at the moment.

    Air India Emergency Landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport

    When: Friday-10.15 takeoff; declared emergency around 11.15 am
    Who: 66 passengers on board 6 crew members
    Why: emergency landing an hour after take off. Passengers rerouted in another aircraft around 12.30 and took off around 1 pm. There was a technical emergency. No one was injured.
