When: engines failed at 2:35 p.m. Monday
Why: While the helicopter was transporting a patient, it had an emergency, and made a landing at the St. Louis Downtown Airport. Patient was transported to destination by other means.

1 Dead, 6 Injured after Heli-Ski Helicopter Crashed in Wanaka
A heli-ski helicopter crashed on Mount Alta near Wanaka, New Zealand, at around 12:20 p.m. on August 16.The accident happened when the helicopter run by Harris Mountain Heli-Ski was carrying 7 people, including a pilot, a ski guide and 5 skiers. All of them were New Zealanders.
One of the heli-skiers died while all others aboard suffered injuries of varied degrees. Two of the injured with minor injuries were taken to Wanaka Medical Centre. Four with comparatively serious injuries were transported to Dunedin Hospital.
Skyline Enterprises Chairman Mark Quickfall said, “I spoke to one of our senior pilots who was first on the scene. As he said to me, it’s a perfect day for flying and heli-skiing. Certainly not windy. So [we] can’t put any light on it at this stage.” He also said there were six other helicopters out heli-skiing on the same day.
The Civil Aviation Authority and Transport Accident Investigation Commission are investigating the cause of the crash.

Couple Killed in New Mexico Plane Crash
A small plane crashed near Route 66 Casino, west of Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 16th.
The plane was trying to land at the Double Eagle II Airport in Albuquerque but could not make it. Two people were aboard at the time, including pilot Michael Vavrek, 68, and his wife Judy Vavrek, 67; both were killed in the crash.
The FAA is investigating.

Plane and Helicopter Collide Mid-Air in Italian Alps; 5 Dead, 2 Injured
A tourist plane and a helicopter collided mid-air in Aosta Valley, Italy, on January 25th.
The accident happened when the aircraft were flying over Rutor glacier.
Five people were killed in the crash. Two others were injured.

Who: 2 fatalities
Why: After taking off from Houma-Terrebonne airport, the chopper crashed a few miles from East Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in a marshy area. Flames from the crash were seen from a distance. Hunters and fishermen in the area called 911 to report the helicopter afire. The crash claimed the lives of those aboard. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries assisted along with several agencies with search, rescue, and recovery.Pilot Jason McKean, and Lanny Ledet had been on the way to an alligator-industry conference in Plaquemines Parish.
Jason McKean had been flying for twenty years. The bodies of the victims were recovered 13 miles southwest of Morgan City.
The cause of the crash is unknown. The FAA is investigating. Tje MTSB saod there was no indication that anything broke off the helicopter before the crash. The final report will not be due for another eighteen months.

FAA FSDO: BATON ROUGE, LA (SW03) Entry date: 01/20/2012 Biplane Crashed during Thunder Over Solano Air Show in California; Pilot Killed
A 1944 Stearman biplane crashed on a runway at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California.The incident happened at about 2 p.m on May 4 during the Thunder Over Solano air show, when the pilot was performing an acrobatic aerial maneuver very close to the ground. The specific stunt is known as “cutting a ribbon” where the plane is flown close to ground in inverted position and a knife from the plane is thrown to cut a ribbon, just off the ground.
Air force officials have identified the pilot as 77 year old Edward Andreini, belonging to Half Moon Bay. According to the FAA records, Andreini owned the 1944 Boeing E75 Super Stearman.
FAA and NTSB officials are investigating the accident.
Cessna Airplane Crashed in Saskatchewan, Canada; 2 Killed
A small Cessna airplane crashed in a field near Torquay in Saskatchewan, Canada, at about 10:15 a.m. on June 15.The plane was carrying two people at the time of the accident; both of them were killed. Their names have not yet been disclosed.
Estevan RMCP and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
Transport Canada’s safety board is working to find the cause of accident.
