    Continental Engine Shut Down over Indianapolis

    What: Continental Express/Expressjet Embraer ERJ-145 en route from Indianapolis to Newark
    Where: Indianapolis
    When: June 1, 2011
    Who: 51
    Why: While en route, the flight developed an oil pressure problem. At 10,000 feet, the pilot requested a return to the airport due to the engine issue. He shut down the left engine and returned to Indianapolis to make a safe landing.

    Passengers were rerouted to alternative flights.

    Alaska Airlines Flight Diverts to Denver due to Disruptive Passenger

    Alaska Airlines flight 769 made an emergency landing at Denver International Airport, Colorado, on February 9th.

    The plane, heading from Logan International Airport, Massachusetts, to San Diego International Airport, California, was diverted after a drunk male passenger became aggressive and threatened the crew and other passengers.

    The plane landed safely. The police officers escorted the man out of the plane.

    The plane resumed the flight after a 45-minute delay.

    Lufthansa Flight Diverts to Iceland

    LufthansaLufthansa flight LH-430 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Keflavik, Iceland, on December 10.

    The Boeing 747-800, en-route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted due to reports of electrical odor in cabin.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    Delta Airlines Flight Intercepted by Greek F-16 Fighter Jets

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-8957 was intercepted by two Greek F-16 fighter aircrafts on May 19th.

    According to the airline, the radio contact with Greek ATC was lost for a brief period of time when the Boeing 767-400, en-route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Kuwait, was transiting through Greek Airspace.

    The fighter jets returned to the airbase as the communication was restored.

    The flight continued to Kuwait.

    FAA, NTSB Employee’s Planes Collide


    What: NTSB employee’s Beechcraft BE-35 (N6658R) five miles from Warrenton-Fauquier Airport
    What: FAA employee Thomas R. Provin’s 1965 Piper PA-28 (N23SC) en route from from Culpeper Regional Airport to the Warrenton-Fauquier
    Where: southern Fauquier County.
    When: May 28, 2012 4:00 pm
    Who: two people aboard the Beechcraft fatalities, one aboard the Piper (injured)
    Why: Over Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia, two planes collided. The pilot of the piper was hospitalized with injuries; both in the Beechcraft succumbed to their injuries. The Beechcraft was owned by an employee of the NTSB. The Piper is owned by an employee of the FAA. Subsequently, they requested the Canadian NTSB to investigate.

    The planes impacted the ground a mile apart by a mile long debris field, one on a family farm. The woodsy secluded area is a challenging site to gather debris due to wildlife like snakes.
