Dulles Tarmac Collision Kills Southwest Airlines Employee

The collision between a “people mover” passenger shuttle and a baggage injured a Southwest Airlines ramp worker. The accident occurred at Dulles International airport. The shuttle ports people between the terminal and concourse.

After the Thursday morning crash, the injured employee was hospitalized at Inova Fairfax Hospital. No one on the Plane Mates shuttle was injured. The worker died overnight.

The airline’s statement
On Thursday, Jan. 26, at approximately 7am, a Southwest Employee was involved in a collision between a baggage cart and a mobile lounge at Washington Dulles Airport. Immediately following the accident, the injured Employee was rushed to an area hospital to receive medical attention. We learned earlier today, Friday, Jan. 27, that the Employee passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. We continue to work with all relevant agencies, including the local authorities and the airport, to investigate events surrounding the accident. The Southwest Airlines Family is greatly saddened by the passing of our Southwest Family Member, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies and support to his entire family at this time.”

    Air Canada Flight Diverts to Shannon Airport due to Medical Emergency

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight ACA-871 made an emergency landing at Shannon airport, Ireland, on August 14th.

    The plane, heading to Montreal, Canada, from Paris, France, had to be diverted after a passenger apparently suffered a cardiac arrest.

    The cabin crew provided emergency medical assistance to the patient before the plane safely landed.

    The patient was rushed to University Hospital Limerick while the plane, with over 400 people aboard, resumed its journey.

    AirAsia Diversion Emergency

    An AirAsia flight from Kota Kinabalu to Penang made an emergency landing here yesterday afternoon after an elderly female passenger complained of chest pain.

    Seventy-one year-old Annie Dunlop from Sandakan, was on an Air Asia flight from Koto Kinabalu to Penang when she suffered chest pain. Pilots diverted to Kuching International Airport where she was pronounced dead. Her remains were taken to Sarawak General Hospital.

    Hawaiian Airlines Flight Diverts to San Francisco After Flight Attendant Dies

    Hawaiian Airlines Flight HA-50 made an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport, California, on January 24th.

    The plane heading from Hawaii to New York was diverted after a flight attendant suffered a medical emergency.

    The plane landed safely. The flight attendant was pronounced dead upon arrival.

    Qatar Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Pilot Suffers Heart Attack

    Qatar Airways flight QR-964 had to make an emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, India, on August 26th.

    The plane heading from Doha, Qatar, to Bali, Indonesia, was diverted after one of the pilots suffered a heart attack.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The pilot, Andre Dinu, 34, was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills.

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Flight Diverts to Shannon Airport

    Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-7042 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on January 24th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane heading from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Copenhagen, Denmark, was diverted after the captain fell ill.

    The plane landed safely. All two hundred and sixty-six people aboard remained unharmed.
