    The National Transportation Safety Board recommends that the European Aviation Safety Agency:

    Modify European Aviation Safety Agency Certification Specifications for Large Aeroplanes CS-25 to ensure safe handling qualities in the yaw axis throughout the flight envelope, including limits for rudder pedal sensitivity. (A-10-119)

    After the yaw axis certification standard recommended in Safety Recommendation A-10-119 has been established, review the designs of existing airplanes to determine if they meet the standard. For existing airplane designs that do not meet the standard, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) should determine if the airplanes would be adequately protected from the adverse effects of a potential aircraft-pilot coupling (APC) after rudder inputs at all airspeeds. If adequate protection does not exist, EASA should require modifications, as necessary, to provide the airplanes with increased protection from the adverse effects of a potential APC after rudder inputs at high airspeeds.     In addition, the National Transportation Safety Board reiterates the following recommendation to the European Aviation Safety Agency:

    Review the options for modifying the Airbus A300-600 and the Airbus A310 to provide increased protection from potentially hazardous rudder pedal inputs at high airspeeds and, on the basis of this review, require modifications to the A300-600 and A310 to provide increased protection from potentially hazardous rudder pedal inputs at high airspeeds.     Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport hosts CIS Event

    The second Routes CIS event will open in just 4 days time in Ekaterinburg, Russia hosted by Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport at the angelo Airport Hotel Ekaterinburg which is connected to the Airport.

    The number of delegates registered to attend the event has already surpassed the expected number of 200 and for several of the companies registered so far, Routes CIS 2012 will be the first time they have attended any of the Routes events. Airlines such as Yakutia Airlines, VIM Airlines and Tartastan Airlines will make their inaugural Routes appearance in Ekaterinburg alongside Kazan Airport, International Airport Barnaul, Belgorod International Airport and Koeln Tourismus Gmbh.

    Airlines currently registered to attend the event contain an, unsurprisingly, strong participation from the CIS based airlines. Attendees so far include S7 Airlines, Rossiya, Aerosvit, Air Astana, VIM, Yakutia, Tartastan, and Ural Airlines with more expected to confirm soon.

    Interest from the Middle East carriers comes in the shape Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways along with FlyDubai and Pegasus which have strong respective networks into the CIS region. Air Baltic will also be present and there will be a senior representation from Czech Airlines which operates 11 routes in Russia and the Ukraine combined from Prague.

    Other out of region attendees include European leading Low Cost Carrier Ryanair and SkyTeam member China Southern who also recently confirmed their attendance.

    Japan Rocket Warning Marks No Fly Zone

    North Korea is launch of a satellite between April 12 and April 16; and as it is going up by rocket which will scatter debris, area Airlines need to be forewarned.

    At least 19 airlines including Philippine Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines and Garuda are rerouting to avoid the rocket or any falling debris. Alternative routes may add 13 to thirty minutes to flights. The Philippines has warned ships to steer from certain arieas where debris might fall into the Yellow sea. The second stage is expected to fall in water 140 km from Luzon.

    However amateur sky watchers are saying in order for the satellite to get into the correct orbit, these experts say, they risk early stages dropping on allies’. The question remains North Korea Lying About Its Rocket Launch?

    Delhi International Airport Partners with IBM to Create a Smarter Air Terminal

    NEW DELHI, Dec. 16, 2010 — Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) has partnered with IBM (NYSE: IBM) India to establish a common-use infrastructure in New Delhi’s Passenger Terminal Building 3 that will automate its operations and improve customer satisfaction to give the airport a competitive edge through quality service. The unified network solution integrates all of the communications across Terminal 3 and its facilities so that airport operations, airlines and other tenants can better share and exchange key information across their related operations to more efficiently deploy their resources and meet the growing demands of the India aviation market.

    “IBM’s solution reflects the need of Delhi International Airport (P) Limited — a solution providing quality management of our internal systems and delivering greater service to the users of the airport while reducing issues pertaining to interoperability through this infrastructure,” said I. Prabhakara Rao, CEO Airport Project Development, DIAL. “We are happy to be working with IBM where they have placed us better in catering to our immediate business requirement.”

    DIAL chose IBM’s Managed Network Infrastructure (MNI) solution, which forms backbone for all the IT and non-IT systems in Terminal 3. It combines video, voice and data over a single network platform using Intelligent Cable Management System with high levels of redundancy and scalability. IBM designed and implemented this network to meet DIAL’s objective of achieving a world class common use IT infrastructure for its customers, thereby supporting and improving service quality levels due to its high available design. The MNI covers the length and breadth of Terminal 3 with wired and wireless network coverage providing common use but highly virtualized network services to airport core systems, IT and non-IT systems, corporate users, government offices, lounges and public facilities. All this has been done with well defined work methods statements, detailed working plans and test and integration plans.

    KLM Cityhopper Returns to Amsterdam due to Electrical Odor

    KLM Cityhopper flight KL-933 had to return and make an emergency landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on September 22nd.

    The Embraer ERJ-190 flying to Dublin, Ireland, had to return due to electrical odor in its cockpit.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Press Release: Boeing’s Houston Site Achieves Additional Environmental Certification

    HOUSTON, Dec. 7, 2009 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today announced that its Houston site recently received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, the latest official recognition of the site’s efforts to improve its environmental performance. The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification system is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. The certification process reviews energy, lighting, water and material use, and a variety of other sustainable strategies.

    The LEED Gold certification was awarded to the Houston facility’s Bay Area Boulevard building in September in the category of “existing buildings.” The site also earned International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification in September and an ENERGY STAR rating for the Bay Area Boulevard building in December 2008. The Bay Area Boulevard building is a 399,000-square-foot facility surrounded by wildlife at the border of metropolitan Houston and the wetlands of the Texas Gulf Coast. Houston is the first Boeing site to carry all three environmental certifications and one of only seven Houston-area companies to have a LEED Gold-certified existing building.

    “These certifications lay the foundation for continually improving our site’s environmental performance for reducing pollution and waste, increasing recycling rates and improving energy efficiency,” said Brewster Shaw, vice president and general manager for Boeing Space Exploration. “Most importantly, they ensure our communities and our customers know that we’re doing our part to protect the environment.”

    By retrofitting the Houston site’s heating and cooling system and installing more efficient lighting and automated controls, Boeing has reduced energy consumption by more than 2 million kilowatt hours annually, or enough electricity to power about 170 average homes. The new heating and cooling system has saved the site $250,000 per year in energy costs since it was installed in 2007. The energy-efficient lighting system controls the building’s lighting automatically, based on peak employee occupancy hours. During off-peak hours, employees can call an automated number to have the lights turned on in their designated work area.

    The 21-acre site has more than 2,500 employees and serves as the headquarters for Boeing’s Space Exploration division, which includes the Constellation, International Space Station and Space Shuttle programs.
