Boeing Receives Florida Governor’s Business Expansion Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Sept. 22, 2010 — The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today received the Governor’s Business Expansion Award from Enterprise Florida at the Governor’s 2010 Business Diversification Awards ceremony in Tallahassee. The Boeing operation at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, Fla., won the award after the site received the consolidated U.S. Navy F/A-18 work and the U.S. Air Force QF-16 contract. The consolidation and contract win will add approximately 75 jobs to the Cecil Field facility.

“This expansion to our work scope will allow us to be even more responsive to our customers by colocating related programs in one spot,” said Gary Phillips, Cecil Field site executive for Boeing. “We’re honored that the governor’s office has recognized our expansion as a significant contribution to the community of Jacksonville and the Duval County area.”

With the addition of the F/A-18 Structural Repair Facility, Cecil Field’s capabilities now include avionics repairs and upgrades; aircraft modification and maintenance; structural and composite component repair; and full nondestructive inspection. The Boeing team at Cecil Field draws on a decade of experience to support Navy and Marine Corps F/A-18A-F aircraft service, repair and modification programs. The facility, located at Cecil Commerce Center, includes 479,000 square feet of maintenance, manufacturing, warehousing and office space.

    Airbus regrets to confirm that an Airbus A330-200 operated by Afriqiyah Airways was involved in an accident in Tripoli, Libya at 04:00 GMT, Wednesday 12th May. The aircraft was operating a scheduled service, Flight 8U771 from Johannesburg, South Africa to Tripoli, Libya.

    The aircraft involved in the accident, registered as 5A-ONG, was MSN (Manufacturer Serial Number) 1024, delivered from the production line in September 2009. The aircraft had accumulated approximately 1600 flight hours in some 420 flights. It was powered by General Electric CF6-80E1 engines. At this time no further factual information is available.
    Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft crashed short of the runway threshold during approach. According to available information there were 93 passengers and 11 crew on board.

    In line with ICAO Annex 13 international convention Airbus is dispatching a team of technical advisors to support the investigation authorities and the Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) as accredited representative.

    The Airbus A330-200 is a widebody, twin-engine aircraft, which typically carries 253 passengers in a three-class, twin-aisle cabin on medium to long range routes of up to 7,250 nautical miles (13,400km). The A330-200 was first delivered in April 1998.

    The concerns and sympathy of the Airbus employees go to the families, friends and loved ones affected by the accident.

    China Southern Plane Diverts to Netherlands

    China SouthernChina Southern Airlines flight CZ303 was forced to divert and make an emergency landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands, on the afternoon of August 3.

    The Boeing Dreamliner, heading from Guangzhou, China, to Heathrow Airport, London, had to be diverted after it ran out of fuel mid-air.

    The plane, with a capacity of boarding 335 passengers, landed uneventfully.

    No injuries were reported.

    Continental Boeing Crashes and Burns on Takeoff


    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737 flight 1404 Denver to Houston Registration N18611
    Where: Denver International Airport on runway 34 Right
    When: 20 DEC 2008 18:18 local time
    Who: 107 passengers 5 crew (at least 38 injured, nothing life-threatening) Ten passengers were taken to Denver Health. 15 passengers were taken to the Medical Center of Aurora. University Hospital in Aurora took in eight. Four passengers were taken to Swedish Hospital
    Why: The plane suffered a runway excursion at runway 34R during takeoff, slid into a ditch and caught fire after the crash. The #1 engine separated from the wing and the undercarriage collapsed. There was a 31 knot (36 mph) crosswind.
    Passengers debarked on emergency slides as the plane burned. 38 people were taken to 4 Denver hospitals with injuries ranging from broken bones to bumps and bruises. Fire burned the right side of the plane. Two patients at University of Colorado Hospital initially listed in fair condition were downgraded to critical condition with fractures.

    By the time the passengers had evacuated, the fire had spread inside and started melting the luggage compartments.

    Debris remained on the runway, with the plane about 200 yards away and its landing gear and left engine shorn off.

    The plane’s first flight was 1994-05-31.It has 2 CFMI CFM56-3C1 engines.

    ANA Boeing Encounters Turbulence

    What: ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-300 en route from Miyazaki to Tokyo
    Where: Tokyo
    When: Apr 27th 2011
    Who: 111 passengers, 8 crew
    Why: 150 miles outside of Tokyo, the flight ran into clear air turbulence. Three flight attendants and two passengers were injured at 4:55 PM. One of the flight attendants suffered a broken bone (pelvis).

    The incident is currently under investigation.

    Tajik Air Flight Returns to Moscow due to Cabin Pressure Issues

    Tajik Air flight 7J-646 had to return and make an emergency landing at Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Russia, on July 2nd.

    The Boeing 737-300 plane took off for Khujand, Tajikistan, but had to turn back due to issues with the cabin pressure.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    BA Flight Makes Safe Emergency Landing at Ataturk Airport

    britishairwaysBritish Airways flight BA-198 had to make an emergency landing at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 11.

    The Boeing 777, en-route from Mumbai, India, to London, UK, had to land in emergency after it ran out of fuel mid-flight due to suspected fuel leak.

    The plane landed safely at Ataturk Airport and everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement aircraft for the passengers.
