Why: The plane circled Round Valley High School two or three times before it crashed into the unoccupied main building at about 2 p.m. Several adults and children were in the auditorium, setting up for the 6 pm town hall. State Sen. Carolyn Allen and former state Sen. Russell Bowers had been there earlier but had already left.
The immediate neighborhood was evacuated because of the fire.

What: 1972 Cessna 150L registered to a flight school in Wheeling, en route from the Chicago Executive Airport Where: on the ice of Grays Lake near Route 120 and Lake Street, Lake County, IL When: early Tuesday evening 4:30 p.m. Feb 17 2009 Who: pilot and one passenger were aboard. Neither was injured. Why: The plane was experiencing engine problems and the pilot determined he would not make it to land at nearby Campbell Airport. Rescue crews left the pilot waiting for a mechanic.
The plane belongs to Flight Center at Service Aviation, Inc. of Wheeling.
Rumor is it got up to 40 degrees Tuesday so let’s hope the pilot got that Cessna off the ice before it melted–

A Sri Lankan Air Force plane crashed in Hokandara, at around 6:15 a.m. on December 12.
The Antonov-32 aircraft was heading from Bandaranaike International Airport to Ratmalana airport when it crashed into a rubber estate in Wanaguru Mawatha.
Atleast 4 people were killed in the accident while another was shifted to Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital with burn injuries. Authorities said he was later transferred to the General Hospital considering the seriousness of his injuries.
Air force spokesperson Wing Commander Gihan seneviratne confirmed the accident saying that in his last communication with the control tower, the pilot reported that the airstrip was not visible due to bad weather.
The accident remains under investigation.

What: single-engine Cessna 182K Skylane (registered to Harold Gartner III of Janesville, Calif) en route from Susanville to Lodi Where: Northern California near the Nevada border When: Nov 20, 2009 12:45 pm Who: pilot Why: While en route, the plane encountered bad weather, crashed and burned. The crash occurred two miles north of the airport.

Overland Airways flight 1186 swerved off the runway at Ilorin Airport in Kwara State of Nigeria on November 29.
The ATR 72 aircraft, which departed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, veered off the runway after it landed at Ilorin Airport at about 4:45 p.m.
Authorities confirmed that all 59 passengers and 4 crew members remained unhurt.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is investigating.

On April 7, 2013, a Helicópteros del Pacífico (Helipac) Mil Mi-8PS with 13 aboard crashed near Perenco Oil in Peru.
There were four crew and nine passengers aboard—all Peruvian— when the flight crashed in the Napo River. Hernán Cervantes Paiva, Trider Pasmiño and Máximo Rolando Cuello have been identified.
The helicopter failed at 11:00 a.m.
Perenco Peru made a public announcement regarding the crash:
“Perenco Peru regrets to announce an accident involving a MI-8 (P 1916 OB) helicopter operated by HELIPAC. The helicopter came down with 13 passengers on board during a routine flight from Iquitos to Block 67. Those on the flight, all Peruvian nationals, comprised nine passengers and four crew members. The passengers included one Perenco employee and representatives of three contractors.
The Peruvian Army is at the scene and two additional helicopters are supporting the rescue efforts. At this stage, no survivors have been found.
The company is working closely with the relevant authorities and is providing what support it can to the families of those involved. “

The Peruvian Air Force activated the System Search and Rescue (SistemaSAR), which mobilized National Search and Rescue Twin Otter aircraft to land in the water in Curaray with the rescue team.
