    Gear Up Landing in Oregon

    Where: SEASIDE, OR
    When: 02/02/2009 4 p.m.
    Who: Only the pilot Roger DeLong was aboard. No injuries reported.
    Why: The Cessna landed with the landing gears stuck in the gear up position. The pilot had already dropped off passenger Gary Turel prior to the landing. The plane slid approx. 700 feet on its belly and sustained some damage. According to the FAA spokesman “landing gear jams are not uncommon on the twin-engine Cessna 320.”

    Unruly Passengers Threaten Hijacking


    What: low-cost air carrier IndiGo’s Flight 6E 334 Airbus 320 en route from Goa to Delhi

    Who: 163 passengers six-member crew
    Why: The plane made an emergency landing at IGI Airport. According to the reports, 15 minutes prior to landing while flying over Jaipur, a couple of passengers were behaving aggressively and made a hijack threat. An emergency drill was put into action, and the plane landed and went to an an isolated bay at the airport. The passengers were allowed to disembark three hours after the plane made an emergency landing at 5.29 pm. One of the passengers is reported to have been drunk. All baggage was inspected and the passengers in question were retained for questioning.

    Unexplained Helicopter Crash in Grande Cache

    What: Sarvair AviationRobinson R44 (owned and operated by Klint Sarver) en route from Grande Prairie to Grande Cache
    Where: about 50 km before reaching its destination Grande Cache, Alta
    When: 6 p.m. Friday night. (rescue saturday Jan 31) ,
    Who: Passenger and pilot are recovering.
    Why: The crash is under investigation; it is thought that the helicopter flipped and slammed into a mountain. The pilot has a punctured lung and other injuries; and was transported to Grande Prairie. Passenger was uninjured.

    Fatal Piper Crash in West Virginia

    Where: KENOVA, W.Va 1.5 miles from the Wayne County airport
    When: after 1 p.m. Jan 30 2009
    Who: Pilot and six passengers were killed in the crash
    Why: The plane was low on fuel and made a sudden 180-degree turn before losing contact with controllers at Tri-State. The plane struck struck a 345-kilovolt distribution lines.

    The wings are broken; the propellor separated and propeller blade is missing.

    Santa Monica Crash kills 2

    Why: The plane departed Santa Monica Airport runway 21 and began a left turn for noise abatement, then turned back to the right descending at a 70-80 degree angle.The plane appeared to lose power and crash on the west end of the runway.

    Pilot and Student Emergency Landing


    What: Sierra Academy of Aeronautics Cessna 152 en route from from Castle Airport in Atwater
    Where: Lambing Ranch to the south west of Turlock Lake east of Waterford
    When: flight left airport at 9:30 a.m. (Landing occurred 40 minutes into the lesson, and 10 miles from the nearest airport)
    Who: Instructor Ken Kwan and student pilot Daniel Yang
    Why: The engine quit at 2,000 feet and falling at 500 feet/minute; and there was smoke in the cockpit. The Instructor landed the plane with no engine power. There were no injuries. After mechanics examined the plane, authorities said the plane experienced “catastrophic engine failure” when a rod went flying through the engine block.

    First Solo Flight ends Well

    Who: Sarah Steves, an aviation student at Daniel Webster College in Nashua NH
    Why: On her first solo cross-country night flight, the pilot experienced power in the plane’s lights and radio. She managed to make an emergency call. Rick Bendel, manager of Monadnock Aviation notified emergency dispatchers who notified Keene and Swanzey fire official with an emergency action plan in place for airport emergencies.

    Steves had a hard landing on all 3 wheels w/o lights and taxied to the terminal without further incident.

    Expo Crash, Fatality at Sebring Regional Airport

    What: single engine Remos Light Sport plane manufactured by Remos Aircraft Inc.
    Where: Sebring Regional Airport in the airport’s south ramp.
    When: rashed around 7:45 a.m.
    Who: pilot Mike Kostelac was flown to Tampa General Hospital, passenger Steven Fletcher who was killed was a UK photographer.
    Why: The crash happened shortly after takeoff. A second plane that was going to take off for formation. The crash happened before the last day of the expo opened at 9 a.m.

    Sport Aviation Expo had 175 spaces rented to vendors of which Remos was one. Remos’ main office is located in Berlin Germany.

    Everglades Emergency Landing

    Loaded Fokker Loses Tires on Nigerian Runway


    What: Kano bound aircraft, a Fokker 100 with tail number 5NCEO from Lagos
    Where: taxiing on the Murtala Mohammed Airport runway

    Who: carrying about 108 passengers
    Why: The plane lost two rear tires while taxiing and derailed to the surrounding field. The airline refunded money to some of them while the others were ferried to their destination. Some affected passengers were accommodated in a hotel in Ikeja, and others were checked into Aero Contractors aircraft bound for Abuja.

    NCAA engineers were studying the plane

    The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has held a closed door meeting with the management of IRS Airlines over the incident.
