Delta Offers Winter Weather Travel Assistance to Customers in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Jan. 7, 2011 — Delta Air Lines is offering customers whose flight plans may be affected by winter weather expected in Atlanta beginning Sunday night the ability to make one-time changes to their travel schedules without fees. Delta’s weather advisory encourages customers to consider postponing or re-routing their travel to avoid possible inconvenience from expected flight delays.

Customers booked on Delta-ticketed flights to, from or through Atlanta Jan. 9-11 may immediately rebook for travel with the same origin and destination before or after their original travel dates as long as new flights are ticketed and rescheduled with travel beginning by Jan. 13, 2011.

Flight delays are expected at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as a result of winter weather, and Delta will proactively reduce flight schedules to minimize delays.

Delta encourages customers to make changes and manage their travel at delta.com. All customers traveling in impacted markets should check their flight status at delta.com before arriving at the airport.

Changes to origin or destination may result in a fare increase, and any fare difference between the original ticket and the new ticket will be collected at the time of rebooking. Customers whose flights are cancelled may request refunds.

    New Breed Logistics to Provide Expanded Logistics Support for Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Charleston, SC

    HIGH POINT, N.C. Jan. 27, 2011 — New Breed Logistics, Inc., headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, has announced that they have been selected by The Boeing Company to provide logistics support in Charleston, South Carolina for the manufacture and final assembly of the 787 Dreamliner.  This agreement represents continued growth of the relationship between New Breed and The Boeing Company and is the largest single contract between the two companies.

    New Breed provides support for many other Boeing airplane programs, and was selected in 2006 to provide logistical support for 787 final assembly and delivery at Boeing’s manufacturing campus in Everett, Washington.  New Breed also recently established itself as a South Carolina Limited Liability Company.

    Under the contract announced today, New Breed will receive, store, provide inventory control, kit, package, distribute, and transport 787 parts, tools, and supplies to designated locations within Boeing’s North Charleston assembly facility.  Louis DeJoy, New Breed’s Chairman & CEO commented, “We are focused every day on providing superior solutions and excellent execution for Boeing.     FAA imposing Penalties for Lasers

    The FAA released a legal interpretation, which finds that directing a laser beam into an aircraft cockpit could interfere with a flight crew performing its duties while operating an aircraft, a violation of Federal Aviation Regulations. In the past, the FAA has taken enforcement action under this regulation against passengers physically on-board an aircraft who interfere with crewmembers.

    Today’s interpretation reflects the fact that pointing a laser at an aircraft from the ground could seriously impair a pilot’s vision and interfere with the flight crew’s ability to safely handle its responsibilities.
    The maximum civil penalty the FAA can impose on an individual for violating the FAA’s regulations that prohibit interfering with a flight crew is $11,000 per violation.

    This year, pilots have reported more than 1,100 incidents nationwide of lasers being pointed at aircraft. Laser event reports have steadily increased since the FAA created a formal reporting system in 2005 to collect information from pilots. Reports rose from nearly 300 in 2005 to 1,527 in 2009 and 2,836 in 2010.

    Minneapolis-Bound Delta Flight Returns to LAX

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight 2116 had to return and make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California, shortly after 9:30 a.m. on January 13.

    The Boeing 757 took off for Minneapolis at about 8:30 a.m. but had to turn back shortly afterwards due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed safely after shedding off extra fuel. All 146 passengers and 6 crew members aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline later said in a statement, “The crew of Delta flight 2116 from Los Angeles to Minneapolis/St. Paul followed procedures to return to Los Angeles International after a potential systems issue was observed. The aircraft landed safely without incident and taxied to the gate under its own power. Delta is currently working to accommodate customers while technicians examine the aircraft. Safety is always Delta’s top priority and apologizes to customers for the inconvenience.”
