None of the four aboard a TT Aviation Services Mooney M20R Ovation when it’s landing gear collapsed on at Tobias Bolaños Airport in San Jose Costa Rica.
At 8:33 am, aircraft registration N10422, was piloted by Venezuelan Alberto Diaz. The plane apparently blew a tire.
Pavas Fire trucks were on hand but their services were not called for. The plane was towed to the hanger at 10:42.
A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 scheduled from Melbourne to Maroochydore had a ground accident on the tarmac.
The plane collided with a Jetstar AirbusA320. None of the 175 passengers on the Virgin flight were injured but both planes sustained damage.
The Boeing’s left winglet was damaged.
The Virgin Australia plane was reversing.
The Jetstar sustained damage to the tail. It had just returned from Sydney, and was stationary during the collision.
An investigation is ongoing. Damages of about three million are estimated to each craft.
The “Meridian” Rockwell 690B Turbo Commander that crashed into the East Haven home had two aboard, Bill Henningsgaard and his teenage son, Maxwell, who were visiting colleges.
Inside one of the houses struck were Sadie Brantley, 13, and Madisyn Mitchell, 1, bringing the total fatalities up to four. The children’s mother, Joann Mitchell, 39, escaped as well as a Scottish terrier which was found outside after the crash.
A National Transportation Safety Board official said there might be four to six fatalities.
Updated reports indicate that the left wing lodged in one house and the right wing in the other.
Henningsgaard was piloting the plane. He was about to land on Tweed’s Runway 2 with an instrument landing. He had missed his first approach and was about to attempt a second landing.
Henningsgaard was a former (14 year) Microsoft executive. According to SVP, Henningsgaard Bill was a member of Social Venture Partners since 1998, was the board chair and acting executive director of Eastside Pathways, and on the board of Youth Eastside Services, co-founded the advisory board of the Institute of Learning and Brain Sciences at the University of Washington, and was treasurer of his church council. He had an undergraduate degree at Harvard, post-graduate education at the University of Oslo, Norway, and an M.B.A. from Stanford.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Sullivan, and two children.
The pilot of a Rockwell International Turbo Commander 690B en route from Teterboro Airport did not alert air traffic control that anything was wrong before the plane he was flying crashed approaching Tweed New Haven at 11:25 a.m. Friday.
The plane struck homes north of Tweed New Haven Airport at 64 and 68 Charter Oak Avenue in East Haven; a one year old and a thirteen year old may have been inside one of two houses that caught fire. Heroic attempts were made to reach the children but were unsuccessful. The children and the pilot have been reported missing.
Witnesses say the mother of the children was in her yard screaming that her children were inside. Passers by attempted to rescue the children, and found the burning plane in a bedroom. Two houses were on fire, and a car blew up in a driveway.
Fire engines and emergency crews from East Haven, New Haven and Brantford responded to the scene. THe houses, plane and car are a total loss.
On August 8, 2013, a Massif Central Aviation Socata TBM700N with 3 aboard was en route from Toussus Le-Novle to Clermont-Ferrand.
The plane crashed with tourists aboard, in the town of Vertaizon, at 9:40 a.m. The tourists were a brother and sister. Everyone aboard, including the pilot, was over 70 years old. The BEA is investigating.

On August 3rd, a United Airlines Boeing 747-400 was en route to Sydney, Australia when it made an emergency landing in San Francisco International Airport Saturday night.
An emergency was declared on 863 after taking off at 10:45 p.m.
One of the engines was shut down.
The plane turned around, dumped fuel and made a safe landing at San Francisco International Airport with emergency services standing by.
A Delta Boeing 767 diverted to Shannon and made an emergency landing on August 5, 2013 with emergency services on standby.
220 passengers and crew were aboard when the right engine developed problems and was shut down.
Pilots dumped fuel thirty minutes into the flight and made a safe landing in Shannon.
The flight was en route from Italy to Atlanta.
In hot weather, planes may take a longer run to get off the ground, so when a plane is heavy, that weight has to be amended.
Thus London City Airport has been reducing the weight of their flights because of their 4,900 foot runway.
On Sunday, the fact that fifteen passengers were pulled from a Gatwick-Geneva flight made the news. The flight was overweight by a ton. According to Swiss Airways, a ground handler reported “It’s happening every day from London City because in bad weather the pilots need a lot of fuel, and can’t take off from City with a lot of fuel and a full plane of passengers”
Simultaneously, Geneva Airport was facing heavy thunderstorms.
A Haverfield Aviation Hughes 369 outside of Midland Texas was engaged in a routine power line inspection at ten a.m. when the helicopter encountered problems.

The helicopter flew into powerlines.
The pilot survived. Two linemen suspended from the helicopter by cables fell two hundred feet when the cables snapped.
The helicopter made a safe landing.
OSHA and the FAA are investigating.
A Korean Airlines Boeing 737-9B5 en route from Incheon Seoul S Korea to Niigata, Japan with 115 aboard (106 crew) suffered a runway excursion.
The plane came to rest mired in soft grass.
Passengers exited via mobile stairs on to the tarmac where a bus picked them up to take them to the gate.
The plane’s outbound flight has been cancelled but Nigata Airport traffic was not substantially disrupted.
The Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will conduct a special inspection of Korean Air because “runway overruns are classified as a “serious incident” by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)”
Around noon on August 4, 2013, an Air China Airbus CA4538 A319-115 was taxiing for departure in Yiwu, Zhejiang, China to Chengdu when the plane slid off the runway into a pitch covered area.
There was no damage reported and no injuries, but the airport was shut down, and passengers taken to Xiaoshan Airport
74 passengers were aboard.
The incident is under investigation.
A Ural Airlines Airbus A320-214 en route from Moscow (Domodedovo airport) to Rostov-on-Don, ran off the runway on landing.
The plane was towed to the parking lot. Passengers were carted to the gate.
There were 119 people aboard with no injuries reported.
The Airbus damaged two runway lights, but airport operations are continuing as usual.
A Fiji Airways Boeing 737-700 was en route from Auckland to Suva when an engine developed issues.
Pilots returned to Auckland International Airport where they made a safe landing with emergency services including fourteen fire engines on standby.
After landing, the plane was escorted by half a dozen fire engines. No fire was found on the plane.
Passengers were provided alternative transportation. None of the 122 passengers or six crew were injured.
An American Airlines flight AA908, a Boeing 777-200 en route from Buenos Aires to Miami made an emergency landing in Bogota after a warning of a problem in the hold.
There were 250 passengers aboard and 14 crew. No injuries were reported. The indicator was a false alarm.
American Airlines sent a replacement flight from the Colombian capital yesterday, at 13.10 local time.

There were no injuries.

A Transaero Airlines Boeing en route from Khaborovsk to Moscow with 234 passengers and 13 crew was en route when it developed problems with its flaps.
Pilots diverted to Khabarovsk where they made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.
On July 31, 2013, an Orient Thai Airlines Boeing 73703T) was en route from Guiyang to Phuket.
Pilots diverted to Surat THani airport and made an emergency landing around 7pm. While taxiing on the runway, a main gear tire slipped off the pavement had had a flat.
The plane was towed off the runway. Flights were disrupted till about 9 pm.
There were 137 Chinese passengers aboard. No injuries were reported.

On July 31, 2013, an Eastern Airways Saab 2000 was en route when pilots observed a warning light on the flight panel. The flight had to divert to Sumburgh Airport in Shetland, Scotland. Thirty oil workers were aboard. THere were thirty-two passengers and three crew.
Shetland’s air, sea and land rescue services responded to the scene, including auxiliary coastguard teams from Lerwick, Noness and Sumburgh. Emergency services were on standby on landing.
Pilots sent a 5.10pm. Mayday and made a safe landing.
None of the 35 aboard suffered injury. The fault was in the warning system.
On July 30, 2013, an African Medical Research Foundation Cessna 404 Titan took off from Merugwayi airstrip en route to Arusha, crashed in Kapingiro village, Tanzania.
The seven people aboard were severely injured when the plane crashed in stormy weather conditions. The flight was carrying doctors providing free medical services in Arusha. Arusha-based Flying Medical Services confirmed the accident but the details have not been released.
On a United Nations MONUSCO flight departing Lubumbashi for Kalemie/Goma, during takeoff, a propellor flew off the plane. THe plane veered off the runway, damaging the undercarrage on non-paved ground.

Un avion de la Monusco a raté son décollage ce lundi 29 juillet matin à l’aéroport de la Lwano à Lubumbashi. Tous les passagers et membres d’équipage sont sains et saufs.
Selon des sources aéronautiques de la Monusco, cette situation a été causée par une panne technique. Les hélices se sont détachées et le moteur endommagé. Cet appareil de type Antonov était encore immobilisé dans la soirée à 200 mètres de la piste.
A MONUSCO plane missed take-off Monday morning at July 29 at the Lubumbashi Lwano Airport. All passengers and crew are safe.
According to aviation sources MONUSCO, this situation was caused by a technical failure. The propellers and the engine were damaged. This Antonov plane is still stuck 200 meters from the runway.
On July 29, 2013, a Spicejet de Havilland Dash 8-200 with 49 aboard was en route from Chennai to Thoothukudi (AKA Tuticorin). After a safe flight, the plane had a tail strike on landing at Thoothukudi Airport. The damaged plane was grounded pending examination.
Passengers returning to Chennai on the next scheduled flight were provided alternative transportation.
Passengers described a bounce, and then the tail making a grating sound as it landed on the runway.
There are no reports of passenger injury.
Pudukottai police and airport security officials responded to the scene.
A Robinson R66 #N646AG en route from Lehighton PA to Endecott NY with five aboard was en route when it disappeared from radar during conditions of severe thunderstorms and heavy fog. The last communication to ATC was a report around 10 pm Saturday that he was “losing altitude and would try to return to a nearby airfield.”
The fragmented wreckage was located at 1:50 p.m. in a heavily wooded area. There was no fire, and no witness.
Emergency response vehicles and personnel traveled an access road on the Mehoopany Wind Farm, a BP Wind Energy location, to the top of South Mountain. The unofficial guess at the cause of the crash is that the helicopter was caught in a thunderstorm.

On July 25, 2013, a Yellow Wings Air Services Ltd Cessna U206F Stationair Cessna type 206, registration number 5Y BUG en route from Nanyuk to Wilson Airport disappaeared from radar around 5 pm in the Aberdares Range, Nairobi Kenya.
The plane went missing Thursday, was found Saturday. Bodies were said to be recovered Sunday.
The three missing swiss, a family of father, mother and daughter, were found beside the wreckage by a Kenya Wildlife Services helicopter.
The plane struck the side of a mountain in the Aberdares mountains.
On Saturday, not to be confuse with this accident, a plane with one occupant crashed in Tsavo National Park.
A helicopter that went down in the Prospect Creek drainage outside of Thompson Falls ten miles up Prospect Creek road on July 27, 2013, suffered one fatality and two injured who were transported to the hospital.
Two Bear Air 2 assisted in finding the downed helicopter.
Search and Rescue, Forest Service and fire personnel responded to the scene. An air evacuation helicopter call was cancelled.
Investigators are still working to determine the problem why the landing gear of Southwest Airlines Flight 345 collapsed while the plane was landing in New York on Monday.
