    TransAsia Airways Falls from Sky, hits Bridge, Keelung river

    At least thirteen were killed and 10 injured when a TransAsia Airways ATR 72 jet en route from Taipei to Kinmen crashed in the Keelung River after hitting a bridge at around 11 am on Wednesday morning. Before impact, the pilot radioed Sungshan Airport a “Mayday” with engine flame out. Other reports say 16 were injured and 30 people missing from Flight 235. Two people in a taxi on the bridge were also injured. The plane was airborne for three minutes before trying to turn around and crashing.

    Two tour groups, Xiamen Airlines International Travel Service Co. and the Xiamen Tourism Group International Travel Service Co. from mainland China (from Xiamen) were aboard. The plane was less than a year old with only 684 flight hours and powered by Pratt & Whitney PW100-127M engines.

    A search helicopter, a hovercraft, 9 ambulances, 10 fire trucks, and police divers in wet suits are among those who responded to the scene. Rescue efforts are underway, with plans to lift the fuselage by crane in an attempt to rescue survivors trapped inside. Underwater visibility in this very polluted river is very limited, according to divers.

    USAF Helicopter Crash in the UK

    The USAF Pavehawk Sikorsky HH-60G that crashed on January 7 2013 at about 19:00 GMT on a training flight in Marshland near Cley-Next-The-Sea, Norfolk in the UK during training exercises transporting munitions, killed the crew of four aboard. The helicopter impacted in a nature reserve.

    A second helicopter flew in as a rescue unit, but there were no survivors. Local witnesses heard and saw the helicopter flying low. It was initially believed the helicopter had ditched in the North Sea. No one on the ground was injured.

    The names of the victims have been released: Capt Christopher S. Stover, Capt Sean M. Ruane, Technical Sergeant Dale E. Mathews and Staff Sergeant Afton M. Ponce. The commander of their unit said that Captains Stover and Ruane were pilots, while Tech. Sgt. Mathews and SSgt Ponce were acting as special mission aviators and “The Liberty Wing feels as though it has lost members of its family, and we stand by to support one another and these airmen’s families during this difficult time.”

    An investigation is underway.

    Pirassununga Training Crash, Crew Lost

    On August 12, 2013, a Smoke Squadron A-29 Super Tucano crashed at around 9:10 a.m. near the Air Force Academy runway in Pirassununga, São Paulo.

    The pilot and co-pilot did not survive.

    The pilots, aviator Captain John and Captain Igor Silva Pivovar, were on a training mission. The Brazilian Air Force is investigating.

    Trainee Flies into Tension wires

    What: Indira Gandhi National Aviation Academy trainee (operating a) SOCATA TB20 Trinidad en route from Raebareli Airport
    Where: Bhadokhar police circle of Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh, India
    When: October 11, 2011
    Who: pilot
    Why: The pilot took off from Fursatganj Airfield-Raebareli Airport, and crashed in Bhav village, in Uttar Pradesh, India. The pilot was on a training flight and flew into the National Thermal Power Corporation tension cable line.

    The pilot trainee, Sudip Vashishtha (Vashisht?) was injured after the powerline reduced his momentum, after which he dropped 20 feet. The training plane was mangled, and the pilot injured with multiple fractures, but conscious, and he is currently considered critical but stable. He was remove from Rae Bareli hospital to Lucknow hospital.

    Newspapers are describing the craft as a chopper, but it is a light single engine aircraft with a variable pitch propeller built by Socata, out of France.

    According to the flight school’s website, “The Akademi functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC). Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) located at Fursatganj District Raebareli Uttar Pradesh”

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Sunken Meadow Park

    A Cessna 152 plane made an emergency landing at Sunken Meadow Park in Suffolk County, New York, on March 11th.

    The plane was on a training flight when its engine failed, forcing the pilot to land on the beach.

    There were two people aboard, including the instructor Robert Keleti, 61, and a student Bar Eliran, 43; none of them were injured.

    One Dead, One Injured after Police Helicopter Crashed in Jordan

    A Public Security Department helicopter crashed in Salt, western Jordan, on February 2nd.

    Authorities said the helicopter was on a night-time training mission when it went down.

    The helicopter was carrying two pilots at the time; one of them was killed in the crash while the other one was seriously injured.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.
