    Lockheed, Pentagon Agree on $4B F-35 Fighter Jet Contract

    U.S. Defence authorities and Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) have agreed upon the terms of a $4 billion contract for purchase of an 8th batch of 43 F-35 fighter planes.

    The deal was first expected in May/June however, the talks slowed after engine failure on an Air force plane on June 23 grounded the whole fleet of F-35 jets for weeks.

    The deal includes aircrafts to be manufactured for the U.S military, Britain and other allies and will reduce the cost of the radar-evading warplane by around 3 percent. Sources said that the cost of U.S Air Force model of the jet will lower by around 4 percent.

    Lockheed has delivered 23 jets out of 36 which were due this year and the company said they plan to deliver the remaining ones within due time.

    Four Killed as Small Plane Crashes near Navasota Municipal Airport

    A small plane crashed near Navasota Municipal Airport, Texas, on February 28th.

    Authorities said the wreckage of the single-engine Cirrus SR-20 plane was found in a wooded area southeast of the airport.

    All four people aboard the plane, including two adults and two children, were killed in the crash.

    The plane was flying from David Wayne Hooks Airport in Houston at the time.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Bird-Hit Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Safe Landing in St. Louis

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-3313 made a safe landing after suffering a bird strike near St. Louis Lambert International Airport, Missouri, on November 4th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane flying from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was on final approach when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Emirates Airways Flight Diverts to India after Medical Emergency

    EmiratesEmirates Airways flight EK346 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Chennai International Airport, Chennai, India, on September 4.

    The plane, flying from Dubai to Kuala-Lampur, Malaysia, was diverted after a 61-year-old person aboard suffered a heart attack mid-air.

    The plane landed safely and all 116 passengers aboard remained unhurt.

    The flight resumed after the sick person was transferred to hospital.

    Tour Helicopter Crashes in California; 3 Injured

    A tour helicopter made a crash landing, hit 2 vans, and caught fire in the parking area of Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Club in California, in the afternoon of May 5th.

    The four-seater Robinson R-44 was returning to the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport after a tour, when it developed a mechanical problem.

    All three people aboard sustained injuries.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Dallas

    A small plane made an emergency landing in Dallas, Texas, on February 11th.

    Authorities said the pilot reported engine issues before the plane landed in a field near South Lancaster Road and Loop 12 in southeast Oak Cliff.

    There were 2 people aboard at the time; both of them remained uninjured.

    The plane was flying from Dallas Executive Airport at the time.
