    Thomas Cook Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Portugal after Shoe Hits a Passenger

    Thomas CookA medical emergency prompted Thomas Cook flight TCX 4125 to make an unscheduled landing in Lisbon, Portugal on January 10.

    The flight was en-route from Fuerteventura to Birmingham when a 79-year-old female passenger Hilda Holland became ill after getting hit by a falling shoe. According to Hilda’s husband John,“The woman sitting behind Hilda decided to get a cardigan from the locker but she pulled a shoe out with it…That came down and hit her on the back of the head and the ear….Ten minutes later I looked over and she was shaking and pale…I thought she wasn’t going to make it, I had never seen her like that.”

    The Airbus A321-211 made a safe emergency landing and the couple was rushed to a hospital.

    They left the hospital next day and were transported to Birmingham through another flight.

    An airline spokesperson said, “Our operations control centre contacted Mr and Mrs Holland at the hospital and offered assistance within a few hours of their arrival… Mr Holland was grateful for the call and advised that he would make arrangements through his insurers and we ensured he had direct contact number for Thomas Cook… Our welfare team have been in touch with the Hollands following their return and we hope Mrs Holland makes a full recovery.”

    Air India Plane Suffers Bird Strike Near Guwahati International Airport

    Air India flight AI-889 suffered a bird strike near Guwahati International Airport, Guwahati, India, on January 19th.

    The incident happened when the Airbus A321-200 plane, flying from Delhi, India, was on approach to Guwahati Airport.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty people aboard remained unharmed.

    Where: Moscow
    When: Tuesday 9.07pm
    Who: 155 passengers 18 crew
    Why: When one of the Airbus’s 4 engines failed, the crew requested an immediate emergency landing in Russia.

    85 passengers were booked to continue to Beijing on Aeroflot and others were being booked elsewhere, later.

    Austrian Airlines Flight Makes Safe Landing After Bird Strike

    Austrian Airlines flight OS-375 made a safe landing following multiple bird strikes in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on January 24th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Vienna, Austria, was on approach to Amsterdam when several birds hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Piper Crash in Tulsa kills 5

    What: Six-passenger Piper en route from Jones Riverside Airport to Dallas
    Where: Chandler Park in West Tulsa
    When: 10:40 a.m., Saturday Sept 5 minutes after takeoff
    Who: Two men, a woman and two girls Tulsa doctor Stephen Lester, his wife Dana, two teenage daughters, Laura, 16 and Christina, 13. and Dr. Kenneth Veteto
    Why: Just after takeoff in rainy, foggy conditions, the plane hit a cable attached to a telecommunications tower, crashed, broke up and caught on fire. When the plane hit, the wings came off. The plane flipped several times. The family and a friend had been going to the University of Oklahoma football game. Dr Veteto leaves a wife and two children.

    Two more of the family’s children were not on the plane.

    Delta Flight Diverts to Dallas over Windshield Cracks

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Atlanta to Santa Ana
    Where: Dallas
    When: November 18, 2010
    Why: While en route, the copilot’s windshield developed cracks. The pilots informed passengers that they were making an emergency landing in Dallas; and passengers were able to see the crack for themselves before they left the plane. A replacement Boeing 737 was provided.
