    Royal Jordanian AirlinesRoyal Jordanian Airlines flight RJ 264 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Montreal airport in Canada, on March 16.

    The flight, en-route from Chicago to Amman, was diverted after a 70-year-old Jordanian passenger became sick midair.

    The Boeing 787 landed uneventfully and the sick passenger was immediately transported to hospital.

    The flight resumed later on, with 224 passengers aboard.

    piaPakistan International Airlines flight PK 785 made an emergency landing at Moscow airport, Russia, on March 15.

    The flight, en-route from Islamabad, Pakistan, to London Heathrow Airport, England, had to make an emergency stop, after a passenger suffered heart attack midair.

    The plane landed safely. The airline arranged an ambulance for the passenger, identified as Pervez Iqbal.

    The flight resumed shortly afterwards.

    Delta Flight Diverts to Anchorage Due to Medical Emergency

    DeltaDelta airlines flight 284 had to make an unscheduled landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, on the morning of March 4.

    According to the airline, the Boeing 777-200LR was diverted “in response to a customer medical situation on board”. The flight was heading from Narita International Airport, Japan, to Los Angeles at the time.

    Delta confirmed in a statement, “The flight landed without incident and paramedics met the aircraft on arrival.”

    The plane later took off again and landed in Los Angeles with a 2-hour delay.

    Gulf Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing as Indian Infant Dies Onboard

    Gulf airA Gulf Air flight had to make an emergency landing at Abu Dhabi airport, UAE, on the morning of March 2.

    The flight, en-route from Kochi to Bahrain, was diverted after an 11-month-old child fell sick.

    Medics were put on alert at the airport, however, the child had already died when the plane landed. Her body was shifted to Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.

    The child, identified as Rishi Priya, of India, was travelling with her mother Aswani Binoy. Her relatives said she had mild fever when she boarded the plane.

    Southwest Flight Makes Stop in Albuquerque Due to Medical Emergency

    The plane took off from Love Field in Dallas and was heading to Las Vegas when a passenger apparently had a heart attack.

    The flight attendants and a passenger physician helped the sick passenger until the plane safely landed in New Mexico. Ground crews then took him for further medical treatment.

    The plane resumed its journey shortly afterwards.

    American Airlines Flight Lands in Emergency at Austin Bergstrom International Airport

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight 1569 had to make an emergency landing at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, Texas, at 6:49 p.m. on February 17.

    According to the airline, the MD-80 aircraft was heading to McAllen when the crew sought permission for an emergency landing due to a “passenger medical emergency.”

    The plane, carrying 132 passengers and 5 crew members, landed safely. The ill passenger was rushed to a local hospital.

    Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing at India’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport

    An air ambulance had to make an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Uttar Pradesh, India, on February 17.

    The incident happened when the plane was transporting a suspected swine flu patient, Antoinette Joy, from Sonbhadra district to Delhi. Authorities said the decision for emergency landing was made after the patient’s condition worsened.

    The plane landed safely and the patient was immediately transferred to a local private hospital.

    Authorities said the plane was chartered by the patient’s husband Malcolm Single. The couple hails from Australia and works for a multinational company in Sonbhadra district.

    Thomas Cook Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Portugal after Shoe Hits a Passenger

    Thomas CookA medical emergency prompted Thomas Cook flight TCX 4125 to make an unscheduled landing in Lisbon, Portugal on January 10.

    The flight was en-route from Fuerteventura to Birmingham when a 79-year-old female passenger Hilda Holland became ill after getting hit by a falling shoe. According to Hilda’s husband John,“The woman sitting behind Hilda decided to get a cardigan from the locker but she pulled a shoe out with it…That came down and hit her on the back of the head and the ear….Ten minutes later I looked over and she was shaking and pale…I thought she wasn’t going to make it, I had never seen her like that.”

    The Airbus A321-211 made a safe emergency landing and the couple was rushed to a hospital.

    They left the hospital next day and were transported to Birmingham through another flight.

    An airline spokesperson said, “Our operations control centre contacted Mr and Mrs Holland at the hospital and offered assistance within a few hours of their arrival… Mr Holland was grateful for the call and advised that he would make arrangements through his insurers and we ensured he had direct contact number for Thomas Cook… Our welfare team have been in touch with the Hollands following their return and we hope Mrs Holland makes a full recovery.”

    Medical Emergency Prompts American Airlines Flight to Land in Lubbock

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight 1527 had to divert to Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, Texas, due to a medical emergency on the night of December 20.

    The flight was heading from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when the pilot decided to divert due to a sick passenger. According to an airline statement, “Flight 1527 (PHX-DFW) made a diversion to Lubbock last night because of an ill passenger on board. The flight landed and the passenger was removed. The flight then continued on to DFW.”

    The sick passenger passed away on his way to the hospital.

    Sunwing Flight Lands in Wilmington due to Medical Emergency

    The pilot of the plane, en-route from Montreal, Canada to Freeport, Bahamas, sought permission for emergency landing after a 60-year-old passenger began experiencing heart attack symptoms midair. There were 198 people aboard at the time.

    Air India Flight Diverted to Kolkata due to Medical Emergency

    The flight was heading from Bangkok, Thailand, to Mumbai, India, when the pilot informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) that a passenger had become seriously ill and sought permission for an emergency landing.

    The emergency medical services were put on standby at the airport, however, after some time, the pilot again informed that the passenger’s condition was quickly deteriorating and immediate medical advice was needed. A team of doctors was then taken to the ATC tower where they advised the pilot on the best possible emergency treatment which could be given to the patient onboard.

    The flight, carrying 244 passengers, safely landed at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at around 10 p.m.

    The sick passenger, identified as J Babariya, 58, of Gujarat, was immediately shifted to a local hospital where he later died.

    The flight resumed its journey after some time.

    Emirates Flight Diverts to Hyderabad due to Medical Emergency

    Emirates Airlines flight EK-432 was forced to make an emergency landing at Hyderabad International Airport, India, at around 7:40 a.m. on September 18.

    The flight, en-route from Dubai to Singapore, was diverted after a female passenger suffered an acute brain stroke.

    The plane landed safely and the patient, identified as Maria Lousia Victoria, 69, from Netherlands, was rushed to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills. The hospital authorities said that the left side of her body was paralyzed. She is currently held under observation in the ICU.

    The flight resumed at 9:10 a.m.

    The flight, which was due to land at Manchester Airport at 1:05 p.m. eventually landed at 3:30 p.m.

    The Boeing 767-300, on its way from Amsterdam to Atlanta with 230 passengers, was flying over Blackpool, England, when the crew declared a medical emergency and requested to land at Shannon Airport.

    The flight was then diverted to Ireland where it made an uneventful emergency landing at 1:50 p.m. Paramedics examined the woman and immediately shifted her to University Maternity Hospital Limerick where she later gave birth.

    The flight resumed its journey and landed safely at its scheduled destination.

    Lufthansa Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing due to Medical Emergency

    LufthansaA medical emergency prompted the Lufthansa Airlines flight LH434 to make an emergency landing at Manchester airport, UK, on August 6.

    The incident happened when the flight was en route from Munich, Germany to Chicago.

    The Airbus A340-600 dumped fuel over Greater Manchester before landing safely at the airport shortly after 5 p.m.

    The sick passenger was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for treatment. The nature of illness is not yet known.

    Monarch Airlines Flight Makes Priority Landing due Medical Emergency

    MonarchA medical emergency prompted Monarch Airlines Flight ZB403 to make a priority landing at Birmingham Airport, UK.

    The incident happened on June 17, after a diabetic male passenger aboard the Airbus 321, flying from Faro, Portugal to Birmingham, became unwell mid-air.

    The paramedics were put on alert as the plane approached Birmingham shortly before 1:00 p.m.

    According to a Monarch spokesperson, “Monarch Airlines can confirm that a passenger was taken ill on this flight into Birmingham earlier today… It was met by paramedics who attended to the passenger immediately.”

    First Officer Passes Out Midair; EL AL Flight 289 makes Emergency Landing in Croatia

    EL ALEL AL flight 289, en route from Tel Aviv to Venice, had to make an emergency landing in Dubrovnik, Croatia, after its first officer fell ill mid air.

    The plane departed from Tel Aviv at around 6 a.m. on May 15. After about 2 hours, the first officer went to use the bathroom and upon returning, told the captain that he was not feeling well. The captain informed the first flight attendant, and was searching for the nearby airports to make an emergency landing, when the first officer passed out. A doctor who was on board among the passengers gave him medical treatment during the flight.

    The captain successfully made a safe emergency landing in Dubrovnik, where the first officer was taken to a hospital.

    The airline later issued a statement confirming the incident.

    “El Al flight 289 from Tel Aviv to Venice, with 98 passengers on board, landed in Dubrovnik after the first officer fell ill during the flight and was unable to fulfil his duties,” maintained the airline.

    EasyJet Plane Diverts to Birmingham due to Medical Emergency

    EasyjetAn EasyJet flight, en route from Aberdeen to London Gatwick, was diverted to Birmingham on Thursday, due to a medical emergency.

    According to the airline spokesperson, “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY872 from Aberdeen to London Gatwick diverted to Birmingham Airport on April, 17, 2014 due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance.”

    The plane carrying 125 passengers safely landed on Birmingham Airport at about 10 am.

    Ecuador Bound International Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Charleston

    TAME Airlines Airbus A330-200 heading to Ecuador from New York’s JFK Airport made an emergency landing at Joint Base Charleston at 2:05 on March 25.

    The medical emergency was declared because of a female passenger having breathing trouble. However, she refused to go to the local area hospital for medical treatment. The plane left after refueling at 4.30 a.m. without dropping the passenger.

    The flight was directed to the Joint Base since no international flights operate between midnight and 4 a.m. at the Charleston International airport, and the ground crew is not available during this time.

    The plane had 70 passengers and 9 crew members on board.

    Boston Bound American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Chicago

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines Flight 202 made an emergency landing at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  It later departed Chicago for Boston after a passenger departed from the plane with medical emergency.

    The 757 plane had 187 on board including nine crew members.

    Kent Powell, American Airlines spokesman said that the pilot had declared a medical emergency to deliver a passenger to medical assistance. 

    The flight landed safely at about 8:30 p.m..

    Indigo Diverts for Medical Emergency in India

    A Delhi-Hyderabad Indigo flight made an emergency landing at Nagpur, Maharashtra, India when a passenger, Neelratan, had a heart attack.

    Pilots made the unscheduled landing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, where the passenger disembarked and was taken to a cardiac hospital.

    After the passenger disembarked, the flight continued to its destination.

    When the Hamburg Airways flight’s landing gear failed to retract after taking off from St. Petersburg, the pilots had to circle for two hours before being able to return to the St. Petersburg airport.

    The Swiss Europa league team was aboard, returning from the quarterfinals in St. Petersburg. Instead, they returned to St. Petersburg for their plane to be examined.

    The flight to the competition also had problems. While en route from Basel to Russia, pilots diverted to Berlin. On the recommendation of team physician Marti, the pilot make an an emergency stop so that forward Mohamed Elneny could receive medical treatment for a dizzy spell. His medical diagnosis was caused by hypoglycemia and dehydration.
