    Bird-Struck China Eastern Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Xiamen

    China Eastern AirlineA Shanghai-bound China Eastern Airlines flight made an uneventful emergency landing at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, after a bird collided with the pilot-side window.

    Flight MU5666 took off from Xiamen at about 1:29pm on April 16. Shortly after the take off, the captain requested emergency landing due to a bird strike. The plane then returned and landed safely. None of the passengers or crew members were injured.

    The ground attendants found the windshield to be severely damaged and splattered with blood and feathers. China Eastern Airlines has confirmed the incident, and commended their crew for calmly handling the situation.

    According to airport authorities, passengers were taken to their destination on another plane.

    EasyJet Plane Diverts to Birmingham due to Medical Emergency

    EasyjetAn EasyJet flight, en route from Aberdeen to London Gatwick, was diverted to Birmingham on Thursday, due to a medical emergency.

    According to the airline spokesperson, “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY872 from Aberdeen to London Gatwick diverted to Birmingham Airport on April, 17, 2014 due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance.”

    The plane carrying 125 passengers safely landed on Birmingham Airport at about 10 am.

    AA Flight 1225 Makes Emergency Landing at Abilene

    American AirlinesThe American Airline MD-82 jet experienced a pressurization problem and made an emergency landing at Abilene Regional Airport, Texas, on April 15 at 4:15 pm.

    The flight was bound for Dallas, Fort Worth International Airport but it landed just 160 miles short of its final destination. The Jet took off with 133 passengers and five crew members from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico early afternoon.

    The Engineers were investigating the possible causes of low pressure.

    Passenger Decides to Open Exit Door Mid-Air: Southwest Airlines Flight 722 Makes Emergency Landing at Nebraska

    UntitledJoshua Carl Lee Suggs, 23, a man from Sacramento, tried to open the rear exit door of the Southwest Airlines airplane flying from Chicago’s Midway Airport to Sacramento on April 13. The captain made an emergency landing in Omaha, Nebraska.

    Airport police arrested and escorted Suggs after landing. Federal officials said he could face charges of interference with flight crew members and attendants. This is punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. He will be presented in Omaha court on April 16.

    The flight 722 carrying 134 passengers and 5 crew members arrived in Sacramento two hours behind the schedule after removing the unruly passenger at Nebraska.

    The other passengers reported that Suggs was acting strangely even before he tried to open the door and jump out of the plane. He emerged soaking wet from the bathroom of the plane at one point. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs or psychotic. He was physically overpowered by other male passengers of the plane on the request of the crew members.

    Pakistani Passenger Dies: SI-704 Makes Emergency Landing at Riyadh

    An elderly Pakistani died aboard Karachi-bound Saudi Airlines flight 704 after leaving Jeddah on April 14.

    The passenger appeared to be in serious condition so the captain requested permission for emergency landing at King Khaled International Airport, Riyadh, for providing him medical assistance. But the man died before landing of the plane.

    The deceased was accompanied by 10 relatives. All of them disembarked in Riyadh. The plane left for Karachi after a small delay.

    Air India Flight 560 Makes Emergency Landing at Delhi

    A Hyderabad-bound Air India flight made an emergency landing immediately after take-off at Delhi airport on April 12.

    The decision to land was made after some technical problems in the plane were discovered. The 131 passengers of the flight 560 faced some tense moments till landing safely. They later resumed their journey on another aircraft.

    Also on board was a senior BJP leader, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, who has been aboard nine flights which made emergency landing in the past.

    AA Boeing 777-200 Makes Emergency Landing at Norfolk

    American AirlinesThe American Airlines flight 950 en-route to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport from Sao Paulo, Brazil made an emergency landing in Norfolk, at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 12.

    The Boeing 777-200 aircraft had 242 passengers and 15 crew members on board. No one was injured.

    A mechanical indicator light, signalling possible fire in the cargo area, prompted the pilot to seek an emergency landing at Norfolk International Airport. However, the airport fire crews did not find any indication of smoke or fire during their inspection after the plane landed.

    THAI Flight TG 281 Makes Emergency Landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport

    THAIA Thai Airways International (THAI) flight connecting Bangkok and the tourist resort Koh Samui, had to return and make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi airport in the morning of April 13.

    Suvarnabhumi director, Raweewan Netarakavesana, said that the pilot discovered problems in the landing gear. She further said that the THAI engineers were inspecting the gear.

    The passengers were taken to their destination through another plane.

    Southwest #762 Diverts to Boise

    While en route from Seattle to Phoenix, a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 flight 762 suffered a cracked windshield. Pilots made an emergency landing in Boise at Gowen Field. The plane went to maintenance, and the 143 passengers had to wait for another flight to get to Phoenix.

    The cabin never lost air pressure but had to dump fuel to make a safe landing.

    Perth Bound Qantas Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Adelaide

    QantasA Qantas flight carrying 266 passengers made an emergency landing in Adelaide, on suspicion of smoke in the cargo hold.

    The A330 aircraft was en route from Sydney to Perth when the smoke warning alarm was activated, indicating fire in the cargo hold. The pilot diverted the plane to Adelaide where it landed at about 12:40pm on April 4.

    According to Qantas, “The flight deck received a warning light indicating a technical issue, so as a safety precaution the pilots made the decision to divert to Adelaide. The aircraft landed without incident and passengers disembarked via normal procedure through the aerobridge.”

    Metropolitan Fire Service officers are looking into the cause of the smoke warning alarm activation.

    Sick Passengers Dies After AA Flight Makes Emergency Landing at O’Hare

    American AirlinesA 69 year old sick passenger traveling on American Airlines Flight 12 died shortly after the pilot made an emergency landing at O’Hare International Airport in order to provide the passenger medical care.

    American Airlines spokesperson Mary Frances Fagan said that the flight was en route from Los Angeles to New York when a passenger got sick. The pilot then decided to make an emergency landing at O’Hare to provide emergency medical treatment to the old man. The plane landed at about 4:45 p.m. on April 2, after which he was rushed to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center. He was confirmed dead at 5:08 p.m.

    Delta Flight 886 Diverts to JFK Airport; Rolls off the Taxiway

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines Flight 886 had to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, due to a fault in plane’s hydraulic system.

    The plane was en route from Atlanta to LaGuardia Airport. However, as the fault was detected, it was diverted to the JFK airport.

    The airline told that the decision of diversion was made because the JFK airport has longer runways than the LaGuardia Airport.

    The McDonald Douglas MD8 aircraft made a safe landing at about 9pm on Wednesday, April 2. But the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told that while taxiing to the terminal, it skidded off the taxi way, on to the grassy area.
    There were 118 passengers and 5 crew members on board. None of them was injured.

    Ultralight Plane Makes Uneventful Emergency Landing in Melrose

    UntitledA small plane made an uneventful emergency landing on a residential street in Melrose, Florida, on Tuesday April 1.

    The incident was reported to the police by a neighbour who saw the plane going down.

    The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the plane landed on Hotel Street at about 13:30 pm. No one, including the pilot, was injured in the incident and the ultralight plane also remained undamaged.

    The pilot told the media that he was landing his airplane on his property, but refused to provide further details.

    Private Plane Makes Emergency Landing at San Jose Airport

    A private King Air 350 plane made an emergency landing at San Jose International Airport in California, after a mechanical fault was discovered.

    According to Rosemary Barnes, spokesperson of San Jose International Airport, the pilot declared a mechanical emergency after which, fire fighters and police immediately rushed to the site. However, the plane safely landed at 6:53 a.m.

    All three persons on board remained injured.

    Avianca Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Without Front Wheels

    UntitledAn Avianca Airlines Fokker 100 jet made an emergency landing in the Brazilian capital city Brasilia, as its front landing gear stopped working.

    The plane, carrying 49 passengers, was en route from Petrolina to Brasilia airport on March 28. The pilot requested emergency landing protocol as his attempt to lower the plane’s front landing gear failed.

    Media sources report that the pilot kept flying the passenger jet around the city, in order to shed the weight of extra fuel. The plane then safely landed on its rear wheels, while the fire crew foamed it to avoid a friction fire when its nose touched the runway.

    All the passengers and crew members were evacuated safely.

    Ecuador Bound International Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Charleston

    TAME Airlines Airbus A330-200 heading to Ecuador from New York’s JFK Airport made an emergency landing at Joint Base Charleston at 2:05 on March 25.

    The medical emergency was declared because of a female passenger having breathing trouble. However, she refused to go to the local area hospital for medical treatment. The plane left after refueling at 4.30 a.m. without dropping the passenger.

    The flight was directed to the Joint Base since no international flights operate between midnight and 4 a.m. at the Charleston International airport, and the ground crew is not available during this time.

    The plane had 70 passengers and 9 crew members on board.

    Malaysian Airlines Flight MH066 Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong

    Malaysian Airlines flight MH066 had to make an emergency landing in Hong Kong after its main electrical power generator failed.

    The flight was on its way from from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul when the main generator of Airbus A330-300 stopped working.

    The plane, carrying 271 passengers, safely landed at the Hong Kong International Airport on Monday, March 24, before 3 am.

    Malaysian Airlines maintains that even though the main generator failed, the plane’s auxiliary power unit was able to continue delivering electric power.

    American Airlines Flight 757 Made Emergency Landing at Tulsa

    Birds ingested in one of the engines of the American Airlines flight 757, forced it to make emergency landing in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    The incident happened while the plane was taking off from Tulsa.  The pilot immediately returned the plane back for check-up.

    These kind of incidents are quiet common in Tulsa, The airplanes usually get hit by birds and sometimes by skunks and other mammals. Alexis Higgins of FAA says that they are seeking help from biologists to remove these birds from the airport.

    GoJet Plane’s Windshield Cracks, Makes Emergency Landing at LaGuardia Airport

    The Pilot of the Delta Connections carrier GoJet coming from St. Louis saw a crack in the windshield and made emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport, NY, on March 22.

    The plane did not have any passengers on board.

    Delta spokesperson said the windshield had a very thin crack and the plane remained fully pressurized.  The pilot declared emergency as an extraordinary precautionary measure.

    The plane has been grounded for repair and maintenance.

    A Learjet plane carrying five people made an emergency landing at Victoria International airport, at about 3:20 pm. On March 22, 2014.

    According to the airport spokesperson, the emergency landing was made after the indication of a landing gear malfunction. The plane landed safely and no one was injured.

    It was later found out that the landing gear was working properly.

    According to the airport spokesperson, the Delta flight connecting through Express Jet was carrying 47 passengers and was travelling from Atlanta to Montgomery. He further said that some mechanical issue was detected in one of the flaps and hence it was decided to request an emergency landing at Montgomery Regional Airport.

    The plane landed at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014. All passengers and crew members exited safely.

    A Dubai Bound Air India Flight Diverts to Mumbai on Suspicion of Damaged Tire

    An Air India Express Flight flying from Lucknow to Dubai made a safe emergency landing in Mumbai on its third attempt.
    Flight IX 193 took off at 2.05 pm on March 8, 2014, from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow. Small rubber particles were detected on the runway after take-off led to suspicions that one or more tires could be damaged.

    The plane was then diverted to Mumbai for an emergency landing, where the pilot asked ATC to check if the tires were satisfactory for safe landing. According to reports, the pilot brought the plane 100 feet above the runway, twice unsuccessfully. ATC successfully viewed the tires on the third flyby, after which the plane landed safely.

    MedView Airlines Lagos-Abuja Flight Makes Emergency Landing

    A local MedView Airlines flight in Nigeria, set from Lagos to the capital city Abuja, had to return and make an emergency landing immediately after take off.1

    Initial reports reveal that Genga Daniel, former Ogun State governor, was also on board.

    While the real reason behind emergency landing is still unclear, some passengers reported that just after the take off, the plane’s cabin got filled with smoke.

    The passengers were safely evacuated through the emergency exit.
