Who: 94 passengers and 4 crew
Why: After takeoff, fumes were detected on board. The flight returned to Fort Lauderdale and made a safe landing. On arrival, some passengers booked on alternative flights; others continued on the same plane a couple of hours later. No details have been released regarding the source of the fumes.

Thai Airways Airbus Emergency Landing in Kolkata

Where: NSC Bose International Airport Kolkata

Who: 238 passengers and 11 crew
Why: When the pilot detected a problem in the fuel dispenser affecting the rate of flow of fuel to the engine, he requested to make an emergency landing in Kolkata.

Ten technicians were flown in to provide maintenance on the plane.

Passengers were provided accommodations (hotel or international lounge), and later booked on a Kolkata-Bangkok flight.

MD-83 Emergency Landing in Copenhagen

Why: While en route, the crew got a low fuel message and diverted to Copenhagen. The problem turned out to be fuel pump feed line pressure.

Why: While ferrying the flight to Paris, the plane developed fuel system problems and returned to JFK where it made a safe landing. This is after the flight had already been cancelled earlier for undesignated technical issues.

Why: On approach to Helsinki, the flight developed fuel problems. Emergency measures were deployed, and the plane landed safely.

Why: The flight had taken off when it began experiencing problems related to one fuel tank. The plane landed safely back at Madrid. A replacement plane was provided to passengers 13 hours later.

Why: Jet Airways Boeing was en route when a pilot diverted to Mehrabad because of a technical fault in its fuelling system. Five hours after landing for repairs, the flight resumed.

Why: While en route, the flight experienced fuel irregularities. The flight diverted to Eau Claire where the problem turned out to be a faulty gauge. Consequently, after discovering adequate fuel and no leak, the flight continued on to its destination with only minor delay.

Delta plane with Fuel Problem Lands safely

Why: The pilot reported a fuel problem prior to making a safe landing at TIA. Fire crews were waiting, but the flight landed without further incident.

Emergency Landing and Changeover in Tallahassee

What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Tampa to the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport
Where: emergency landing in Tallahassee Florida
When: Saturday Apr 25th 2009
Who: 147 people
Why: After discovering that the plane was experiencing mechanical problems involving the fuel tanks, it took twenty minutes to land. Passengers boarded a MD-83 and reached Dallas nine and a half hours later. The MD-82 with fuel system issues is under examination.
