Pilot Killed in Lee County Plane Crash

small planeA small plane crashed at 2143 County Road 305 in Lee County, Texas, before 10 a.m. on November 23.

The accident happened when the Aero Commander 500 was heading from Hooks Airport, Spring to Austin Executive Airport.

Authorities said the pilot of the plane, identified as Daniel Disbrow, 63, of Magnolia, Houston, was killed in the crash. Disbrow was a Galveston County sheriff’s deputy from 1976 to 1988.

The plane is registered to a Spring-based aerial photography company, Aerial Viewpoint.

The cause of crash is under investigation.

Why: After takeoff, fumes were detected on board. The flight returned to Fort Lauderdale and made a safe landing. On arrival, some passengers booked on alternative flights; others continued on the same plane a couple of hours later. No details have been released regarding the source of the fumes.

What: DEM Enterprises Commander 114B en route from Scranton to Lenawee
Where: just northeast of Adrian in Cadmus, Michigan at Heritage Park near M-52 in Raisin Township
When: 23-OCT-2009 4:30 pm
Who: husband and wife, Eric Beaudry and Deb Rodgers-Beaudry
Why: While en route, the plane crashed in a field. Witnesses say the plane was on fire as it came down, and that one wing was loose or coming off. It is speculated that the wing hit a control tower. One remained aboard; one was ejected. Both people aboard died.
