Southwest Airlines Flight Diverts to Omaha due to Unusual Odor

Southwest Airlines flight 4378 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 23rd.

The plane heading from Denver, Colorado, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted after the crew noticed an unusual odor in the cabin.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 140 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.

American Airlines Plane Returns to Austin due to Odor in Cabin

American Airlines flight AA-2575 made an emergency landing in Austin, Texas, on February 17th.

The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Chicago, Illinois, but had to turn back after the crew reported an odor in the cabin.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 146 passengers and 6 crew members remained safe.

British Airways Plane Returns to England due to Smell in Cabin

britishairwaysA British Airways flight had to return and make a precautionary landing at Gatwick Airport, Horley, England, on September 1st.

The plane en-route to Crete, Greece, had to return shortly after the cabin was filled with a strong smell, similar to that of cannabis.

The plane landed safely. All passengers onboard remained unharmed.

The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

British Airways Plane Returns to UK due to Cabin Odour

British airwaysBritish Airways flight BA-2552 had to return and make an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, London, UK, on July 21st.

The Airbus A320-200 en-route to Heraklion, Greece, had to return due to a strong unpleasant odour in its cabin.

The plane landed safely.

No one was injured.

Allegiant Plane Diverts to Florida due to Odor in Cabin

AllegiantAllegiant flight G4-749 had to divert and make a precautionary landing at Jacksonville International Airport, Jacksonville, Florida, on July 6th.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-83 was en-route from South Bend, Indiana, to Orlando, Florida, when the crew reported odor in the cabin, prompting the plane to divert.

The plane landed safely. All 172 people aboard remained unharmed.

The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

Virgin Australia Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Brisbane

Virgin Australia flight VA-1280 made an emergency landing in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on February 23nd.

The Boeing 737-800, heading from Hamilton Island, to Sydney, Australia, was diverted after the crew noticed an unusual odor in the cabin.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 160 people aboard remained safe.

American Airlines Flight Diverts to Waterloo, IA

American Airlines Flight 3047 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Waterloo, Iowa, on February 18.

According to the airline, the plane, en-route from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Chicago, Illinois, had to be diverted after odor was reported in the cabin.

The plane landed safely. There were 26 passengers aboard at the time; none of them were harmed.

The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

SkyWest Airlines Plane Returns to Tucson International Airport

A United airlines flight had to return and make an emergency landing at Tucson International Airport in Arizona, on February 7th.

The plane, operated by SkyWest Airlines, took off for Los Angeles, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after the cabin filled with smoke.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 73 passengers and 4 crew members were safely evacuated.

The FAA is investigating.

Delta Airlines Plane Returns to Minnesota due to Burning Odor

250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-2802 returned to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, Minnesota, on September 25.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-88, heading towards Tampa, Florida, had to return due to a burning odor in the back of cabin.

The plane landed uneventfully.

No injuries were reported.

Southwest Airlines Reno Flight Diverted Due to Smoke

What: Southwest Airlines Boeing en route from Oakland to Reno
Where: Oakland
When: August 28, 2012
Who: 119 passengers
Why: Southwest Flight 2899 took off but moments later at about 9:30 a.m., a flight attendant smelled smoke.

Pilots diverted the flight back to Oakland and made a safe landing. Fire and rescue crews were on standby.

Moranbah Ferry Flight Makes Emergency Landing

What: QANTAS Dash-8
Where: Moranbah Airport
When: Feb 9 2012, 12:30 pm
Who: 3 crew, no passengers
Why: While ferrying the plane, the crew made an emergency landing at Moranbah Airport after circling.

They reported smoke in the cockpit, but on landing, no fire was found. Queensland Fire and rescue crews stood on standby during the landing. The ATSB is investigating.

British Airways Burning Scent instrumental in expedited Landing

What: British Airways Airbus A319-100 en route from London UK to Zurich Switzerland
Where: Zurich
When: Dec 11th 2011
Why: On approach to Zurich, passengers and crew smelled an odor described as “burning” and “electrical.”

The crew made an accelerated approach and wore oxygen.

They made a safe landing.

Pilots taxied to the gate as usual, and passengers disembarked, with emergency services on standby.

What: American Airlines Boeing 767-200 en route from Los Angeles,CA to New York JFK,NY
Where: Los Angeles
When: Nov 23rd 2011
Who: 164 aboard
Why: The LA to New York flight took off as usual but once in the air, passengers and crew smelled something burning.

The pilots returned to LAX and made a safe landing.

The incident is under investigation. No details as of yet.

What: Lufthansa Airbus A320-200 en route from Ekaterinburg Russia to Frankfurt Germany
Where: Perm
When: Oct 25th 2011
Who: 116 passengers and 6 crew
Why: While en route, smoke appeared in the cabin of the Airbus.

The pilots reported the smoke to ATC and diverted to Perm.

They made a safe landing. Passengers waited while a replacement flight was provided.

Where: Amsterdam
When: Dec 16th 2010
Who: 178 passengers
Why: About half an hour into the flight, people aboard began complaining they were being affected by fumes aboard the plane. Both passengers and crew complained of nausea. Returning to Amsterdam, the plane made a safe landing and those affected were treated at the airport. The fumes were assumed to be from de-icing compounds.

What: Delta Airlines Boeing 767-400 en route from New York to Athens
Where: Manchester England
When: Midnight (E.T.)
Who: 231 passengers and 12 crew
Why: While en route over the Irish sea, smoke was detected in the cockpit. The crew diverted to Manchester where they made a safe landing.

Passengers were provided hotel rooms. They would have been able to leave earlier but for an ATC strike in France.http://avstop.com/news_sept_2010/air_traffic_control_strike_affecting_traffic_in_and_out_of_france.htm The passengers were scheduled to fly out Friday morning at 8:00 a.m.

What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from San Francisco to New York
Where: Casper Wyoming
When: Jul 12th 2010
Who: 193 passengers, 9 crew
Why: While en route, the flight developed a smokey odor in the cockpit. The pilot decided to divert to Casper Wyoming. In Casper, when American Airlines found the source of the fumes to be a computer screen, maintenance dealt with the problem, and the plane was allowed to continue with its passengers to the destination.

Where: Klamath Falls
When: Jul 8 2010
Who: 136 passengers
Why: While en route, the passenger cabin developed a burning smell. The flight diverted to Klamath Falls where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.
