    Manila: Plane Crashes Neighborhood, Warehouse

    What: Victoria Air Douglas C-47B Skytrain freighter en route from Manila to Palawan/ Puerto Princesa, Philippines
    Where: Villa Fidela subdivision in Las Pinas; abandoned warehouse
    When: Oct 17th 2009
    Who: 4 on board (7?)
    Why: After takeoff, the crew reported a mayday situation. After reporting engine trouble, they were returning to the airport. Witnesses say that the airplane began to “wobble” (roll left and right). The pilot was approaching runway 6 when plane lost altitude, went down in Villa Fidela subdivision in Elias Aldana village and struck a house and a warehouse. 14 houses were damaged and four on board were killed. Two houses by the warehouse caught on fire. The manifest states that 7 were on board but that is unconfirmed.

    The Victoria plane had been on a test flight. The same plane had encountered trouble at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) runway three weeks ago when its brakes failed.

    Published reports identify the dead as Jaguar Huane, flight captain and co-owner of the plane; Benjamin Rivera (another Victoria Pilot), Richard Sinaya, and a “Mr. Cedingan.”

    Zest Crashes Barriers in Caticlan


    What: ZEST Xian MA60 Aircraft Flight 865 en route from Manila to Caticlan
    Where: undershot the Caticlan airport runway, Phillipines
    When: Sunday Morning 11 JAN 2009
    Who: 22 adults, 2 children, 1 crew aboard.
    Injured: Though initial reports indicated two children and one crew member were injured, fifteen were taken to the Baptist hospital in Caticlan.
    Why: According to reportage (which may be obscured due to mistranslation) strong winds caused the aircraft’s landing gear to “explode.” (explode?) The plane undershot landing on runway 06, hit an airport barrier. The plane’s nose, landing gears and propellers were damaged. The runway was then closed.

    The plane reportedly “veered to crash into the airport’s passenger lounge” but that has not been confirmed. The injured included at least one ground crew member.

    Cebu Pacific’s ATR Emergency Landing in Philippines


    What: Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 893 ATR-72-500 propeller-plane, bound for Caticlan, Aklan
    Where: NAIA 1’s Runway 06 Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila
    When: 7:21 am Wednesday morning
    Who: 53 passengers and four crew w
    Why: the pilot reported a problem in the right engine. Alarm lights in the instrument panel were blinking. The carrier provided flight vouchers for Caticlan via Kalibo. The passengers were bound for Caticlan, gateway airport of the country’s most popular tourist destination Boracay island. The carrier stated officially that “The engine of the 11-month-old ATR 72-500 aircraft will be checked by an international maintenance crew from Cebu Pacific”

    Pilot Suffers Stroke During Flight

    What: Airbus 320 en route from Manila to and Bacolod City
    Where: Philippines
    When: the flight landed safely at 5:37 p.m. local time
    Who: Philippine Airlines pilot Alex Carvajal, 79 passengers
    Why:Pilot suffered a stroke yesterday afternoon while he was at the controls. Co-pilot Donato Cabigo took over the helm and landed without incident. At the time, the pilot felt pain in his neck. The hospital termed it “a cerebrovascular accident” or a stroke
