    Doctors Without Borders-Chartered Helicopter Crashed in Nepal; 4 Killed

    A helicopter crashed on Yamuna Danda hill, near Balefi village, in Nepal, on June 2.

    Authorities said the helicopter, chartered by Doctors Without Borders, was involved in post-earthquake relief activities. It crashed when it was returning to Kathmandu with 4 people aboard.

    All four people, including 3 men and a woman, were killed in the crash. The deceased have not yet been identified.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing at Aberdeen International Airport

    helicopterA Super Puma EC 225 helicopter had to make an emergency landing at Aberdeen International Airport, United Kingdom, on May 28.

    The helicopter, operated by CHC Helicopter, was carrying 19 people when an alarm went off, forcing the pilot to declare an emergency.

    The aircraft landed safely and everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    According to CHC, the alarm went off due to a baggage item that had been restricting the air flow around a smoke detector.

    Foreign Dignitaries Killed as Military Helicopter Crashed in Pakistan

    A Military helicopter crashed into a school in Naltar, near Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, on May 8.

    The Mi-17 helicopter was transporting foreign dignitaries to the inauguration ceremony of a ski resort chairlift when it crashed and caught fire. Initial investigations reveal that the accident happened due to a mechanical fault in the helicopter.

    There were 17 people aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. Authorities confirmed that seven of them, including the Norwegian envoy Leif H Larsen, the Philippines ambassador Domingo D Lucenario, the wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian envoys, 2 Pakistan Air Force pilots and one technician, were killed.

    Others, including the Dutch and Polish ambassadors, were injured and were airlifted to a local military hospital.

    Columbus Police Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Parking Lot

    A Columbus police helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot in Columbus, Ohio, around midnight on April 30.

    Authorities said the helicopter’s pilot decided to land in emergency after a warning light went on.

    The plane safely landed near a shopping plaza in west Columbus. No one was injured.

    The helicopter was able to return to the police heliport early morning.

    Super Stallion Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing on Solana Beach

    A Marine Corps helicopter made an emergency landing on Solana Beach, California, on April 15.

    According to a statement released by Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the 100-foot CH-53E Super Stallion was forced to land in emergency after a low oil-pressure indicator light flashed. “The aircraft was conducting routine training, and the pilots landed the aircraft safely,” it said.

    The aircraft remained undamaged.

    The Super Stallion has three engines and is the heaviest and largest helicopter the U.S. military has.

    Helicopter Crash in Malaysia Kills 6

    HelicopterA helicopter crashed near Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih, Malaysia, on April 4.

    The commercially-chartered twin-engine Daughin helicopter crashed while it was transporting guests from the wedding reception of Malaysian prime minister’s daughter in Pekan, Pahang state.

    Six people, including the country’s special envoy and former ambassador to the United States, Jamaluddin Jarjis, and the chief of staff to prime minister, Azlin Alias, were killed in the crash.

    Among other victims was the pilot Clifford William Fournier, operations assistant Aidana Baizieva, Kedah businessman Huat Seang and Mr Jamaluddin’s bodyguard Razakan Seran.

    Prime Minister Najib Razak has ordered a probe to determine the cause of crash.

    Private Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing Off Coast of Taylors Island

    SeaA private helicopter made an emergency landing into the water off of Taylor’s Island, Maryland, on March 25.

    Authorities said the helicopter apparently experienced a mechanical issue, after which, the pilot radioed a distress call and made a hard landing in around 4 feet of water.

    There were 2 people aboard at the time, including the pilot Vincent T. Giglio, 45, of New Jersey, and his passenger, Ronald F. Lopes, 61, of New York; both of them remained unharmed.

    Helicopter Crashes into Residential Building in Orlando; 3 Killed

    FireA helicopter crashed into a building at 722 Alameda Drive, near Orlando Executive Airport in Orlando, Florida, at around 2:15 p.m. on March 22.

    Authorities said the Robinson R44 helicopter took off from Orlando Executive Airport but crashed shortly afterwards into a two-story garage apartment, sparking fire.

    According to Orlando police Sgt. Wanda Ford, “We don’t know what caused the accident… We just know the helicopter did go inside the guest house and thankfully there were no residents inside.”

    All 3 occupants of the aircraft were killed in the crash. They were identified as the pilot Bruce Teitelbaum, his wife Marsha Khan and a friend Harry Anderson.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Ewa Beach Construction Site

    A Robinson R22 helicopter made an emergency landing at a construction site in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, at around 12:45 p.m. on March 17.

    According to helicopter’s owner George Hanzawa of George’s Aviation Services Inc., the aircraft was heading from Honolulu to Kalaeloa when the pilot heard a strange sound. He then decided to make an emergency landing as a precaution.

    The helicopter was carrying 2 people at the time, including the pilot; both of them remained unharmed.

    The aircraft was not damaged.

    A helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a cranberry farm in Hammonton, New Jersey, on March 13.

    According to the FAA, the helicopter belonging to Steel Pier helicopter rides had to land in emergency landing due to engine problems.

    None of the 2 people aboard was injured in the incident.

    Pilot Killed after Medical Helicopter Crashed in Oklahoma

    Eagle MedAn EagleMed medical helicopter crashed in woods, west of Eufaula, Oklahoma, on March 12.

    The accident happened when the helicopter was carrying 3 EagleMed employees, including the pilot Matt Mathews, nurse Kim Ramsey and paramedic Ryan Setzkorn.

    According to McIntosh County Emergency Management Director Wesley Dawson, the crash was reported at around 11:40 p.m. while search and rescue teams located the wreckage at around 4 a.m. on March 13.

    The pilot was killed in the crash while the nurse and paramedic sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Argentina: Helicopters Collide as French Survivor Reality Show Filming “Dropped”

    Ten people died near Villa Castelli in La Rioja province, Argentina when two helicopters (Eurocopter AS 350B3 Ecureuil) and (Eurocopter AS 350B2 Ecureuil) carrying French contestants, crew and two Argentine pilots collided and exploded during the production of ‘Dropped,’ a French reality show.

    The fatalities included Laurent Sbasnik, Lucie Mei-Dalby, Volodya Guinard, Brice Guilbert, and Edouard Gilles of the French production team, and three celebrities: swimmer Camille Muffat, boxer Alexis Vastine, and French sailor Florence Arthaud, and the two Argentine pilots:Juan Carlos Castillo and Roberto Abate.

    One helicopter, LQ-FJQ, was owned and operated by Gobierno de Santiago del Estero, and the other, LQ-CGK, by the Government of La Rioja.

    2 Dead in Central Japan Helicopter Crash

    fireA helicopter crashed into a mountain forest in Kihoku, Mie Prefecture, Japan, at around 10:50 a.m. on March 6.

    Authorities believe the 22-seater helicopter touched a power cable, sparking fire in around 200 to 300 square meters forest area.

    Both occupants of the aircraft were killed in the accident. They were identified as 53-year-old Captain Yoshifumi and 41-year-old Yuki Fujimoto.

    The incident is under investigation.

    Helicopter Lands in Emergency in a Plymouth Park

    Helicopter crashA helicopter made an emergency landing in a park in Plymouth, Indiana, on the night of February 26.

    The helicopter was en-route to the Plymouth airport when it began experiencing engine problems. The pilot then looked for an open space and landed in a park behind the Boys and Girls Clubs of Marshall County building. The aircraft sustained minor damage during landing.

    Authorities said both occupants of the aircraft, including the 46-year-old pilot and his 66-year-old father, remained uninjured.

    Passengers Escaped Unharmed after Their Helicopter Crashed in Bedfordshire

    A helicopter crashed on a farm land near Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire, England, on February 25.

    The helicopter, carrying the pilot and 2 female passengers, was en-route to Sussex when its engine malfunctioned. The pilot then decided to make an emergency landing on farm land however, the aircraft flipped over during landing.

    According to Inspector Tracey Day, “I was very pleased when I got there to find three people with cuts and bruises, but everyone had walked away relatively unscathed.”

    South African Navy Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in Cape Town

    HelicopterA South African Navy chopper had to make an emergency landing at Milnerton Golf Club, Cape Town, South Africa, on February 23.

    The incident happened after the helicopter’s cockpit caught fire.

    According to spokesperson of Department of Defence, Brigadier General Marthie Visser. “A Lynx helicopter of the South African Air Force conducted an emergency landing on the Milnerton Golf Course during a routine maintenance test flight today…No injuries were reported. A preliminary investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident.”

    The incident happened when the helicopter was carrying 2 men. According to South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman Rich Airey, “It was reported that the helicopter had a soft landing but then rolled onto its side…We sent two ambulances, a car and the hazardous area response team.”

    Both occupants of the Robinson R22 suffered only minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that they did not need hospital treatment.

    The accident is being investigated.

    Bird-Hit Royal Air Force Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing at Cardiff Airport

    RAFA Royal Air Force helicopter had to make an emergency landing at Cardiff Airport in the Vale of Glamorgan, United Kingdom, on the morning of February 4.

    According to a Ministry of Defence spokesperson, “Two RAF aircraft were training in Pembrey when one aircraft thought it had been struck by a bird…As a precaution the aircraft asked to land at the nearest airport which was Cardiff…There was no damaged discovered and both aircraft returned to the RAF Valley base in Anglesea.”

    Airport authorities confirmed that Hawk T1 made an uneventful emergency landing and no one aboard was harmed.

    2 Injured as Helicopter Crashes in Alberta

    HelicopterA helicopter crashed in a farmer’s field near Township Rd 251A, between RR 32 and RR 33, north of Springbank Airport in Alberta, Canada, just after 11 a.m. on February 4.

    EMS officials confirmed that there were 2 people aboard at the time of incident; both of them sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

    According to Stuart Brideaux, from Calgary EMS, “On arrival EMS determined there were a total of two occupants aboard, a man in his 40s and a man in his 50s, each taken to the hospital…It was described as quite a hard impact, although the helicopter did remain upright, when it struck the ground… Both men were fortunately able to get out of the helicopter under their own power after it impacted, however both still required hospital transport.”

    The cause of accident is under investigation.

    2 Escaped Injury after Helicopter Crashed on Frozen Black River

    CrashA 2-seat helicopter crashed on a frozen section of the Black River in northern New York on the afternoon of February 1.

    The incident happened east of Watertown when the Gary Johnson, of Carthage, was taking a pleasure ride with his passenger Michael Rohr.

    Both occupants of the helicopter survived the crash and were able to walk to a nearby road.

    A military helicopter crashed in Dimapur district, Nagaland, India, at around 9:30 a.m. on February 2.

    The accident happened shortly after the Cheetah helicopter took off from Rangapahar helipad for a routine sortie.

    All 3 people aboard, including an army official and 2 pilots, escaped unharmed.

    Authorities said the helicopter crashed nose down and sustained damage.

    The accident is under investigation.

    Helicopter Crashed During Training Exercise in Southern California; 2 Marines Killed

    HelicopterA Third Marine Aircraft Wing helicopter crashed at Twentynine Palms Marine base in Southern California on the afternoon of January 24.

    The UH-1Y Huey helicopter, carrying 2 Marines, crashed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center during a training exercise.

    Both occupants were killed in the crash. They were later identified as Captain Elizabeth Kealey, 32, of Indiana, Pennsylvania and First Lieutenant Adam Satterfield, 25, of Oldham, Kentucky.

    Wing commander Maj. Gen. Michael Rocco said in a statement, “Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the two Marines we lost in this tragic accident.”

    The cause of crash is not known at the moment.

    U.S. Coast Guard Chopper Hit by Bird; Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Houston

    US Coast guardA helicopter, belonging to the U.S. Coast Guard, had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot in Houston, Texas, on January 22.

    The chopper had to be landed in emergency at a shopping center’s parking area, after a bird hit it. Authorities said the helicopter was flying over the Gulf of Mexico for checking on an unmanned platform at the time of incident.

    Four people were aboard at the time; all of them remained uninjured.
