    Pilot Feared Dead after F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes in Arizona

    An F-16 fighter jet crashed in a remote area near Bagdad, Yavapai County, Arizona, on January 21.

    The jet that took off from Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, was carrying a student pilot from Taiwan when it went down. Authorities said the pilot was practicing air-to-air combat with an instructor as part of training.

    According to Brig. Gen. Scott Pleus, commander of the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke, “All indications lead me to believe that the pilot did not survive the accident…But until we have 100 percent confirmation, we will continue search efforts.”

    The cause of crash is not clear at the moment.

    ANA Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    ANAAll Nippon Airways flight NH-823 made an emergency landing in Okinawa, Japan, on December 18.

    Authorities said the Boeing 767-300, en-route from Tokyo Narita Airport, Japan, to Taipei, Taiwan, was forced to divert after the crew reported haze in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 198 people on board remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    The incident is being investigated.

    TransAsia Plane Lands on One Engine Due to Oil Leak

    TransAsiaA TransAsia Airways plane, performing flight GE505, had to land with only one engine at Magong Airport, Penghu County, Taiwan, on September 8.

    The pilot of the ATR 72-500 aircraft, en-route from Taipei Songshan to Magong, had to shut the right engine down after he detected an oil leak.

    The plane landed safely.

    There were 22 passengers and 4 crew members onboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    TransAsia Plane Returns to Songshan Airport

    TransAsiaTransAsia flight GE507 returned and made an emergency landing at Songshan Airport in Taipei, Taiwan, on February 21.

    The plane took off from Songshan Airport for Makung Airport in Penghu County but had to turn back immediately after the captain reported issues with signals involving torque.

    The plane landed back safely shortly after 1 p.m. and was taken for inspection.

    The airline accommodated passengers in another flight.

    Daily Air Plane Crash Lands in Taiwan After Co-Pilot Forgets to Deploy Landing Gear

    Daily AirA Dornier Do 228 aircraft landed on its belly and skidded some 700 feet before coming to halt at Taitung Airport in Taiwan, on December 21.

    The accident happened after the co-pilot forgot to deploy the landing gear while approaching the runway. The Daily Air pilots were simulating left-engine failure and emergency landings at the time, however, failure to lower the landing gear was not pre-planned.

    The plane was carrying only the pilot and the co-pilot at the time; both of them remained unharmed.

    Taiwan’s Aviation Safety Council is investigating.

    China Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    China AirlinesChina Airlines flight number CI-167, en route from Kansai International Airport in Osaka to Kaohsiung International Airport in Taiwan, made an emergency landing at Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan at around 2:36 p.m. on June 26.

    The decision for emergency landing was made after the pilots noticed fuel levels rapidly dropping in the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

    The passengers were accommodated in flight CI-123 to Taipei and flight CI-309 to Kaohsiung. China Airlines served dinner to all 154 passengers aboard before they resumed their journey.

    A spokesperson of the airline said that the aircraft is under inspection.
