Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in North Carolina Field

A small plane made an emergency landing in a field near Dog Creek Road off Highway 221 in Ashe County, North Carolina, on November 13.

The single-engine Cirrus SR22 plane, carrying 2 people, was en-route from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, Georgia, to Lancaster, when it lost power, forcing the pilot to land in a field.

The plane landed uneventfully. Both people aboard remained unhurt.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Jackson County Highway

emergencyA small plane made an emergency landing at Highway 63 in Jackson County, Mississippi, on November 8.

The single-engine plane was en-route from St. Elmo, Mobile County, when it lost power, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing.

The plane landed safely. The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unhurt.

The FAA is investigating.

American Airlines Plane Returns to Pennsylvania after Engine Shut-down

American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-1864 had to return and make an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport, Pennsylvania, on November 6.

The Airbus A319-100, en-route to Charlotte, North Carolina, had to return due to high oil temperature, forcing the crew to shut one of its engines down mid-air.

The plane landed safely.

All 111 people aboard remained safe.

Bird-Hit Volotea Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Italy

voloteaVolotea Airlines flight V7-1230 had to make an emergency landing at Cagliari Elmas Airport in Italy, on October 22.

The plane was flying from Venice when a large seagull struck it, forcing the crew to declare emergency.

The plane landed safely.

No one was injured.

Aer Lingus Plane Diverts to Cork Airport after Passenger’s Death Mid-Air

Aer LingusAer Lingus flight EI 485 was forced to make an emergency landing at Cork Airport, Cork, Ireland, on the afternoon of October 18.

The Airbus A320-200, en-route to Dublin, Ireland, from Lisbon, Portugal, had to be diverted in emergency after a 24-year-old passenger “ran amok” and later died mid-air.

The plane landed uneventfully.

Among 168 passengers and 6 crew members aboard, 1 person sustained minor injuries while trying to help the man.

Silver Airways Flight Returns to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

silver airwaysSilver Airways flight 3099 had to return and make an emergency landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida, on October 6.

The plane was heading to Key West when its windshield cracked, forcing the pilots to return.

The plane landed safely. No one was injured.

The passengers were transported to Key West in another flight.

The FAA is investigating.

Flybe Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Engine Shut Down

flybeFlybe flight BE6938 was forced to return and make an emergency landing in Kirkwall, Scotland, on September 24.

The Saab 340 turboprop jet, operated by Loganair, had to be diverted after the crew shut down its left engine due to a warning indication. The flight was en-route to Inverness, Scotland at the time.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 32 people aboard remained unharmed.

A replacement aircraft was arranged for the passengers.

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Mount Airy Cornfield

A 1976 Cessna 150 M had to make an emergency landing in a cornfield on Bill Moxley Road, Mount Airy, Maryland, on September 19.

The pilot, identified as Paul Borghese, 47, of Ashburn, Virginia, said he was forced to make an emergency landing after the plane experienced engine issues. He was heading from Clearview Airpark, Westminster to Leesburg, Virginia at the time.

The plane ended up on its roof and sustained minor damage.

The pilot remained unharmed.

Helicopter Carrying Uttarakhand Minister Makes Emergency Landing

chopperA helicopter carrying Uttarakhand Forest Minister Dinesh Agarwal had to make an emergency landing in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, on September 13.

Authorities said the chopper was forced to land in the Glocal University campus due to bad weather. Mr. Agarwal was en-route to Dehradun at the time.

The aircraft landed uneventfully

Mr. Agarwal continued his journey in a car.

Crashed, Stolen, Force Landings on April 1 No Joke

On April 1:

  • A privately owned Reims Cessna F172E with two aboard made an emergency landing in Nome, Norway after an engine failed. Neither of the two aboard reported injury.
  • An Ultralight suffered a mechanical failure in south Surrey, BC crashed and sustained damage. The pilot parachuted out into a field of blueberries, and was injured but survived.
  • The pilot of a Beech J35 Bonanza force landed in a cornfield in northwest Davenport, Iowa after the plane suffered a mechanical failure. THe plane was damaged. The pilot was not.
  • A privately owned Cessna 210H that took off from Bullo River Station with four aboard crashed near Cape Ford in Australia. The bodies of three of the four people aboard have been recovered. Those aboard were 45-year-old electrical contractor Stuart Sceney, his 53-year-old wife Karmi Dunn, and daughters Mekdes, 12, and Kal, 15. A search continues for the wreckage and the remaining passenger. Weather conditions hampered the search.
  • A Cessna 172 Skyhawk went down with engine troubles in Juneau County swamp, Wonewoc, Wisconsin. THe pilot Seth Pripps of Rockford, Ill was uninjured. Firefighters assisted.
  • A Caicos Express Airways Cessna 402C took off from and landed at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and suffered a nose-gear collapse. The plane is registered to Turks and Caicos Islands. The pilot was uninjured.
  • A Cirrus SR22 was reported missing/stolen from Benton Arkansas. It was found abandoned in Casscoe Arkansas. On Monday night, the plane had been scheduled to land at Saline County Airport. When officers approached, the plane took off nearly hitting a deputy.

What: Kakadu Air Gippsland GA-8
Where: near Cooinda Australia (Northern Territory)
When: 3pm on Tuesday
Who: Pilot suffers minor injuries.
Why:Engine failure forces landing. Suspected engine failure related to faulty fuel systems.

Last Sunday 5 people walked away from a Barrier Air charter plane that experienced engine failure at 2500 feet and crashed when trying to land on Whitewood Rd, Howard Springs, in Darwin’s rural area.

Forced Landing in Single-engine Piper

What: single-engine four-seat Piper registered to Tri Radial Flyers, of Tiverton en route from T.F. Green Airport to New Hampshire
Where: crashed into some trees at the edge of the Schofield Farm. Rhode Island
When: about 8:30 am Sept 1
Who: pilot Barry Carroll, 58 was uninjured
Why: The plane experienced engine problems at 7,500 feet and the pilot could not make it the five miles back to the airport, so made a forced landing in the Schofield Farm field. On landing the plane’s left wing tip broke off.
